Just check out the thread two spots below this one, lol

how do you break in a top end

That oil is fine to use. I use it when I run out of Honda oil. Change the oil and filter AFTER THE CAM BREAK IN. Any particles from the break in, as well as any debris that may have been left in the engine, will then be drained. You also want clean oil in the engine after the cam break in...

how do you break in a top end

I do think that they make a synthetic break in oil. I may be wrong though. It'd probably be stupid expensive if it was available, lol. Cam lobes do harden during break in, namely on the cool down cycles (hardening). It depends on the type of cam as to what oil will be needed, and any break...

how do you break in a top end

Use conventional engine oil. Follow the camshaft mfg's break-in instructions. If there are none, call the manufacturer and ask. Don't let it just idle, vary the engine speed so the rings will seat. Also, a few good whacks of the throttle to near wide open (not in succession) won't hurt. It...

    2nd and 3rd gear sputter

Do you feel any up and down play in the countershaft? Any roughness when you turn it by hand?

    2nd and 3rd gear sputter

Hi Pat, this is Pat. Hahaha, I crack me up, Pop your front sprocket off and make sure that the sprocket and the counter shaft splines aren't rounded off. If that's okay, you are looking at some transmission issues.

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

And, now this is nearly 100% up to date. Am putting the original 232 back in it. Just don't have the time, or money, to finish the 4.6L I6. Will be installing one of Comp's High Energy cams and a small 4v to give here some pep. All AMC I6 engines were anemic from the factory, and once...

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

Thanks! BIG progress today. She has left her resting place of 6 months! And, finally found her way onto a lift! The two areas that needed attention paid on the underside. First picture, driver's side: Passenger side: Passenger side rot cut out: Patch in place: Driver's side...

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

Whipped up a coil spring compressor really quick this morning. And, by quick, I mean it took me fifteen minutes to do. Worked perfectly. The driver's side is about ready to go. Ceramic pads and brake hoses will be in tomorrow morning. New wheel studs, bearings, races, wheel seal, caliper...

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

Picture I meant to take a week and a half ago. Just have to grind the welds down. This picture is of the driver's side toe board and firewall that I had to repair, and that all have seen from the inside. This pictures are of some of tonight's work. I stripped the fender aprons several...

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

Forgot to snap a picture with the weld completed. Will try to get that tomorrow. It surprises me that both of these flanges were good on my parts car when the floor and rocker panels are nearly rotted away completely, yet, on my car, they were toast. Weird Small update. Just have to...

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

These are from October These are from a couple weeks ago. I need to take some current pictures. All of the welding to the uni-body and trough is complete. The cowl just needs some hand sanding. I made patch panels for the kick panel, firewall and the inner rocker panel from...

Finally got my next project car!!!!!

Copy and pasting from my thread on THEAMCFORUM.com. All this date back to end of Sept. We had nothing scheduled today, so I drug the parts car into the shop, cut the driver's front frame rail and fender apron off. This is how she sits in my car. I only have it clamped in up...

    the new ride ;)

Sure! Do I get a night out on the town with you if I donate? Hehe ;) Some retro fit kits aren't too expensive. I think Comp's is pretty reasonable. I'm good with hyd flat tappet myself. I had a custom ground cam made from Lunati and it ran $200. Again, hyd flat tappet.

    Screw hatfield mccoy

Personally, I love the Hatfield trails. For an out-of-stater, it's great. Plenty of trails, great accommodations, TRAIL MAP... Lots of fun. Honestly, I go there with my family and/or friends so WE can get away from it all. I'd rather ride trails that are deemed to "lesser quality" by...

Slow starting 87 (lots of cranking)

A week stator can sometimes cause the symptoms you are experiencing. OHM the stator as per the manual and see if it within spec.

    the new ride ;)

Feels good, doesn't it?? I've been plugging away on my Javelin nearly everyday. Other then body work, it's nearly ready to be driven.

Anyone want to own the ONLY elite 1st gen?

Money. I need it. And, I don't ride this quad anymore. Prefer 3 wheels, now.

Slow starting 87 (lots of cranking)

Do a compression test. Sounds like compression is low and needs to crank excessively to "develop" enough compression to start it. When the engine is hot, tolerances are tighter, so it doesn't need to crank as much to fire it up.
