    carb problems

Most of todays aerosol carb cleaners aren't very good at "stripping" varnish, IMO. Works fine for flushing. It will dissolve the stuff that's still oily, but not the white or green "powder" pond scum that gas turns into (thanks to ethanol I believe). I have used this with good success...

    carb problems

Plugged accelerator pump circuit. It goes from the pump, through the teeny passage across the bottom of the fuel bowl (very small, easily clogged), up through the brass "straw" discharge nozzle in the venturi. Has to be totally clean. Verify flow with aerosol carb cleaner.

    blowing the floor out..porting

Improvement? Wellllll... yes and no. Maybe. Without an inside micrometer and a flow bench, it may or may not work. Grind too much, and you can make the flow "stall" between the valve and head outlet. Some '80's-90's GM aluminum heads (Corvette) use a D shaped port from the factory. Ford 351...

    Idle issue

Plugged pilot jet. Must remove carb, remove jet(s) and clean all passages. May need some small wire to poke them out. They are VERY small especially in the pilot circuit. Carb can't have ANY funk or corrosion stuck inside.

X2! Isolate the real problem, and replace what's broken. Don't half-ass it. There are waaaay too many "parts changers" masquerading as "mechanics" out there...

Backfiring out the exhaust after shut down.

:ohno: Amazing. You guys will be cryin' the blues when the exhaust valve burns, piston crown melts or the top ring siezes to the piston. :iagree: Doesn't matter what outside temp is. It takes no longer than 30 seconds to check a plug. Honest. A little rich? No problemo. Lean =

Was the chain itself stretched, the automatic adjuster bad, or chain follower(s) worn??? Could be one or all the above. Just don't throw $$ at it, man, ya gotta ask questions. We're here to help.

    having MEGAAA trouble!!!

Your rims came from something aside from a Warrior or Banshee or other similar Yamaha quads. Different bolt pattern = no worky. Using an automotive pickle fork on tie rod ends will tear the boots, causing the "permanent" silicone grease to leak out everywhere. Ask me how I know :(

Sweet. Seals should come with your gasket kit. I used a Namura kit for my top end only job, was very pleased with the quality. Do a search for "porting" here. A couple of guys have done nice jobs on their ports and chambers. Doesn't take much time at all with a rotary file and some sandpaper to...

    warrior with a problem?

Why not bypass the park brake switch first? Helluva lot less costly and easier to do than any teardown. A friend has a '98 YZ250WR that had a dead battery (has kick and electric start both). I would kick start for a second, then backfire out of the pipe the same way and quit just like your quad...

Do you mean the flywheel spins like there's no resistance? Does the crank turn with it or does is spin independently from the crank???? Hardware stores have shear keys, but you may have to "modify" one to fit. There are all different shapes, lengths and widths.

Somebody explain Hillsville to me please. Legal or no? I know a local who goes there but has gotten busted for trespassing more than once...

Yup. Bent valves are still a possibility too, even though there's compression. Need to figure out why it sheared. Bad cam chain/guide/tensioner...?

To do the pull start conversion, you also need the decompression exhaust rocker AND aforementioned rocker cover from the '87-88 machine. They are different than yours. You can leave the intake rocker alone if it's good. You will not pull start that sucker easily without it, especially with a...

    wet die prblem

About 2 zillion things, but check your spark plug cap first for cracks, etc. If water gets up under where the tip of the plug is it will ground out till dry.

New DD/Toy- Updates as of 8/19/2012

Wow, never saw those wheels in 4 lug before, let alone a complete set of 4. What brand are they? They look to be 8" wide ARE Gamblers but ARE's had 5 windows. Car oughta clean up nice!

    rear brake issues

Worth a shot at cleaning it up and giving it a go for a short term fix. Worst it could do is leak, or eventually be susceptible to rusting/pitting in the same spots if the chrome is gone on the piston. While you're at it, I strongly suggest removing the front master cylinder from the bars...

    rear brake issues

Educated guess? Caliper piston has rust on the edge near the seal. When you retracted the piston to get the new pads in, the rusty scum ring got jammed into the caliper. Disassemble and inspect the piston and bore. If the piston is rusted, replace it. It's pitted and officially toast. The bore...
