Hey Don't know why it happened, but i ended up ordering three from three different company. they all were to small. so once i got my third one in the mail and it didn't fit i got the big drill out and punched some bigger holes in it..lol works fine now.

No, year doesnt matter. But if you do get one you gota cut the "v" or bottem out of your airbox, and put thin metal back over it to close it. Plus they cost about as much as a stocker.

Yeah mine did the same thing. And I didn't do anything about it. Till it bit me in the ass and cracked my intake. After ordering two different ones that didnt fit I just drilled bigger holes in it. But I think that the "back fire" that your talking about is what made mine crack.

Well on my bike I noticed the same thing. So mabye thats just how they are but wait till someone with some more knowledge to say something though.
