any ideas on what would be the best airbox setup for xc racing? i have the stock box and k&n replacement, should i get clamp on and cut box, remove lid,???????

Clamp on with k&n, put an outerwears over the filter and possibly an outerwears airbox cover for added protection. This set up will bring in a lot of air while still keeping you protected. Like I said the box cover is optional, if you think you need even more protection the box cover is only like 17 bucks or so.

Thats the set up i have, except i have the clamp on uni filter. And the outwears airbox cover is kinda weird you have to raise the box off the frame with washer to get it to hold to the box corectly. I race xc but i havent gotten to use this set up yet so ill let you know when i get out there.

if you dont care about money i would get a Pro flow K&n with outerwear, then buy a Esr air box lid i think thats what there called, sould get some real nice flow and keep all that crap a XC race might through at you.

If it's not too dirty, do what I did. Get a short length of PVC tubing and a clamp-on filter. Then just attach the tubing to the hose that goes to the airbox, and put the filter on the other side. I do this with a UNI dual stage filter and it flows better than a K&N and airbox without a lid. If I'm gonna get it dirty, I just attach the K&N+airbox setup.
