Well one of my header bolts sheared off and the pipe was half-disconnected from the head. That's when I noticed that blue flames were shooting out of the small gap that created. I'm pretty sure this isn't normal. Is my timing off or something?

Dude that area is like one inch from the combustion chamber, yes it is normal in that area to see flames.

Yeah, a flame coming out at the base of the header is nothing abnormal, although you should fix that. But it's when you see a blue flame coming out the end of the silencer that you need to really start looking into things. I was getting a 6 inch blue flame out the tailpipe when I let off the throttle, turns out it was because I was running too lean.

Does anybody else have header bolts that keep snapping? I've already broken two top ones and a bottom one in the short time that I've owned this thing. It's really annoying ad it's kept me from riding more than a few times.

sounds like your bike is more trouble than its worth buddy.
sorry i know the feeling
i had to put $600 into my '87 quadsport just to get it right
one thing broke i rode then another
if u can afford it get another lol unless u like fixing and investing money

im not trying to be mean and i hope i dont sound mean

Nah I know what you mean, I've had that thought going through my head a few times already. Just recently the right nerf bar snapped right off where it connects tot he footpeg mount on the frame. My friend stepped on it to get on and it snapped. I'm going to try and fix the big problems (just the nerfs right now) and I'll try to sell it when it gets warmer and the market warms up. :p Then I'll hope to find a good deal on another or maybe a 400ex.

Sounds to me like you need to get a new exhaust manifold gasket.. Tighten the head bolts with the header then make sure and postion the muffler so that there is no load on the header. Sounds to me like you maybe have the muffler cocked or maybe postioned wrong putting stress on the header.
My best guess.. hope this helps.

Yea I think you're right, the guy I bought it from made a pipe bracket that held the pipe way too low, less than 10cm away from the tire, so I just raised it and it seems better. And mine doesn't have an exhaust gasket for some reason.

holy ****!! Yeah that will do it. That is another reason why you will have a blue flame. Any exhaust leaks will cause that to happen.

Yea there was also the time the bolt holding the pipe fell out and it was rubbing on the tire for a bit. Now that pipe has this little part that's a bit shinier than the rest of it. :p
