what would be the best front shocks as well as rear setup for the money like elkas or works or custom built?

i would say a banshee rear is really good for the money....you can get them for 50 off ebay and they are adjustable...i have one on mine and it rides really smooth...

I LOVE my elkas. But I hear really good things about PEP. I'm not too found of those fox floats, lsat race a guy blew both his front floats on his second lap due to low air. They just seem to fragile. I would stick around ELKA, PEP, and AXIS.

the cheapest is going to be works, they can custom make them to your riding style and there close to half the price of elkas, i have a set of them and i love mine, no problems with them even though everything thinks there not that great?

I run the Elka Elite's and a PEP 8 clicker in the rear on my YFZ. The Elkas are nice, but if you don't care about the money I'd go with PEP. The owner Wayne is awesome and he knows shocks like no other!

Peps and works are the same thing...but peps are better..I know that doesnt sound right but they are the same build..I personally really like custom axis for woods riding/racing.

I bought the non adjustable piggy back elkas, dual rate spring for $750, adjusters add another $100 and a fully adjustable Elka runs between $950 and $1050. Oh and the guys at Elka are very nice too.

The problem with works is they seem to wear out quite fast, I had a set of Works dual rates with remote rezzis and didn't think much of them, the spring rate seemed way to soft, and rebound was too slow.

idk ive beaten the **** out of my works. i love how soft they are and the rebound it great on them still. I dont see any signs of wear and they dont have rezzies.

Just to clarify PEPS and Works aren't even close to being the same. If you plan on just doing some mild racing and don't really care to be competitive then buy the Works. If though you plan on hitting it hard and want a shock that is proving by many top pro riders then get PEPS. Another option for the rear at least would be to contact GT Thunder, TCS, or Deseri. They can re-build/valve it for your riding style and weight. A lot of my friends have tried them and from what they say you can't beat it... I know for my YFZ GT Thunder wanted $395 to do it all and that came with a new linkage. My Warrior on the other hand runs Works, reason they are hell of a lot better then stock and they want break the bank...

My works have held up very nicely and they were originally purchased in 1998! I would go with Peps or Ohlins, Ohlins will definately be a grand.

Also if you are just wanting better suspension for trail riding and such and racing isn't all this quad is use should be looking at shocks without rezzies. the rezzie really isnt going to do anything for you when you aren't hitting large jumps repeatedly everytime you have your quad out. By doing this you are sure to save 3-400 bucks by just buying a dual or triple rate set of shocks with no rezzie.

Yup.. agreed, very ****** design. They use spacers that only allow the spring to compress a spec amount that goes around the body. The spacers are loose and flop around until the spring becomes compressed then the spacers then move along the valve body.. any dirt or really any movement (spring action) causes very fast wear on the body. Also my seals leaked very quickly after I got them.. They spring them very soft as well which is nice for the average rider but when you want to do some jumping you really need to have something a little stiffer.

Actually, I would think rezzies would be more vital in the trails. All the bumps those shocks are going to be put through, Im sure they'll get heated up more often then hitting jumps.
