i just a bought a basicly stock (except for dg slip on pipe) 97 warrior and runs pretty good when its cold but when it warms up it like sputters and like half throttle and when its like in high rpm full trottle. i can ride it just fine full throttle but when it starts to rev all the way up it sputters out and wont rev all the way up. the kid i bought it off said he had went up two jets when he added the pipe but idk he was prolly full of **** lol. i am just wondering if u guys knew anything about this do u think it just maybe needs a carb rebuild. thanks! and o yea the pipe is bran new if that helpls anything and when i pulled the plug the other day it was black as hell which means its running ritch

yeah rich .... mostly needle and main .... take look at what grove the needle clip is on and what main jet is in it .... also what kind of air filter is in it

if i upgrade the air filter it might fix my problem cuz i think it is starving for fuel when it is sputtering i can hold it wide open and it just sputters when it gets to high rpm. it will only hit red line like once in a wile in neutral but i know that a black plug is running rich so idk what its doing

chances are that someone tried to jet for the pipe but with the shock air filter they jetted it to big

it has no holes in the air box lid i ran it around the yard with it off and it made no difference. i rode it all day and it used a whole tank of gas which i think is way to much for how much i rode it. so its gotta be running ritch as hell but idk how or y i cleaned the carb and that didnt help and idk what setting its on if its on the third setting or not

Have you pulled that carb apart? I would start there and see what size jets are in it and what notch the needle clip is on. Give it a good cleaning, reinstall and ride it. See what happens. Most of the time with just a slip on muffler going up from the stock 145 main to a 150 is about normal, depending on your altitude ofcourse. You may have a jet that is too big or you may have a needle that is set too far up. But until you take it apart and confirm the size jets, this is all heresay. There is one other possibility, and that is the 2 o-rings that go around the outside of the needle jet tube are bad. When they go bad fuel will pass by them and run EXTREMELY rich.

what is the needle jet genpat? I have heard of a main jet, pilot jet and the needle itself? I think im having a brain fart

The needle jet is the tube that the needle goes down into. It is also what the main jet screws into.

The yamaha parts fiche does not show them because they go around the "Y" shaped insert that the slide goes into. Yamaha has it as part of the carb body and it is not sold sperately. I have an old one here and will take a pic of it and post is when I get home. I had this issue with my bike and after scratching my head for several hours, and trying several different main jets, I discoved the problem. Is it the problem? No, maybe not. Does it have the potential to be? Yes, very much so.

I just looked for it and can't find it. I have my spare carb but I think I threw out the "Y" insert because it had gotten broken. But, if someone has a spare carb, I know yamahauler does, they can take it out and share with all. You need to remove the bowl, float, and the slide. Then remove the 2 tamper proof torx (I think) from the top of the insert. Those screws are in the top of the carb where the slide goes in to. Next, rest the end that the main jet screws in, and push down on the carb's body. This should be enough to push the insert out. Spraying lube on it will help. If it will not come out, DO NOT PULL FROM THE TOP WITH PLIERS! It WILL break! You may have to tap the top of the carb body it loosen it up. But, once it is out the 2 o-rings are exposed for all to see. Mine were dry rotted and fuel was passing by them and into the ventura, making it run super rich. Just a thought if all else fails. They don't often go bad, but if it can happen to one it can happen to all.

hey guys thats for the info i just got the bottom of the carb off and it has the stock 145 main jet in it so the guy lied he didnt jet it so idk where to look now where is the needle thing at lol

I wouldn't get a jet kit if I were you. Not many of us have had success with them. Mainly because, if I'm not mistaken, their jets are sometimes smaller than normal. You are better off getting genuine mikuni jets and going from there. Many times increasing the size of the main is all that is needed. But every bike, carb and exhaust are different. If you are referring to the 2 o-rings that I was talking about, I wouldn't worry about them yet. You have to get the carb dialed in corrrectly first and take it from there. Like I said earlier, they don't normally go bad. But since they are rubber they will eventually dry rot and leak excess fuel into the system. Then there are 1st gens with the original o-rings and they have never had a problem. Get that carb dialed in right, and go from there. Best to keep it simple first.
