I took my 02 Warrior out on the lake today and after letting it warm up for a good 20 min(only 16 Deg here) got on it and down shifted into first and the shift lever stayed down like the spring tension isn't there to bring it back up where it should be I was able to drive it just fine through all the gears but I had to reach down and pull it up into second so I could get my boot under it to shift up through the rest of the gears. hoping this is an easy fix and don't have to pull the engine apart to fix it. If someone can help me and show me some picks on what I need to do to fix this problem I'd appreciate it.

I can still drive it all the gears work and the clutch works great too it's just the shifter down by the foot peg doesn't spring back the way it should when I put it in first it stays down and when I put it in second it stays up doesn't spring back to the middle the way it should

it does spring back but it's really sluggish and slow it's not a quick pop like my 92 Warrior it was working just fine 2 weeks ago when I went riding and it hadent been ran since that time before today couldnt be the cold weather cause the 92 isn't doing it or is it?

I noticed the linkage rod has alot of play in it could that just need to be adjusted so there is less play
