Hello, all. New to the forum here, and new to Warriors in general. So, I traded one of my firearms for a 2004 Warrior 350. First off, I saw the the intake boot was cracked majorly. I new I was getting my high idle symptoms with that as the cuplrit. I repaired the boot with some rtv sealant as well as a tube from a bike tire (as I've done in the past for temporary means only). Definitely made a difference in the idle. Thing would fly. After that, I noticed quite a bit of valve noise, as well as some serious backfiring into the intake. Checked and adjusted the valves, which were WAY out of spec and also checked my timing. It was also out of time, so I went through the routine of setting the time, per the manual. Valve noise seemed to settle when first started back up, but after riding it down the road to open it up a little, I had an increase in power, yet the noise returned with a vengeance. I kicked around for a bit, then, after talking to my younger brother who has owned one of these quads, we decided it was symptomatic of a bent and/or burnt valve. Pulled the head, and as suspected, there were issues. Valves had serious carbon buildup, and the exhaust valve had so much buildup, that it continued out past the valve seals and on up to the rocker almost. The top of the piston was VERY contaminated as well. Also I failed to mention that the valve seals were doing some serious leaking upon startup, causing some pretty heavy smoking. But normally with oil, it burns dark- this was a white smoke almost like the quad was flooded.
Scratching my head on this one.... Any advice would be appreciated. I can post pics if need of the valves.
