Just rebuilt my warrior... went .020 over wiseco piston and rings new rod kit, valve job, carb rebuild, and gaskets. First i had lack of top end power and wouldnt run with no choke. I switched out the pilot jet and that reversed the problem to running off choke but not on. I noticed with the airbox off and no filter it ran great with no problems but with the airbox and filter on when you gave it throttle it just died down and had no power. with the airbox off the carb would spit out some gas so when the airbox was on i think it would flood itself out... i checked the lash on the valves and now all i get when i start it is backfiring and sputtering.... NEED HELP PLEASE

I don't know if the older carbs are the same, but mine backfired like hell when I didn't connect the hose with a weird valve at the end to the connector on the float bowl. Also, check your air filter, maybe it's really dirty.

Sounds like you have a intake leak.. first. So spray some carb clean or something around the boot to see if rpm's pick up and if they do you'll have to fix that.
2nd. Sounds like your float is stuck or pilot jet is way rich. It also could be cam timing. I would make sure everything good.
3rd it sounds like you set the valves to tight or you have a really lean condition. Pull the choke and if the backfiring goes away then you know it's lean. If you pull the choke and it still backfires then you know it's either cam timing or valves are to tight.
That's the best I can do with the info I got.
