97 warrior rebuild

Hi all. Brought a Yamaha warrior 350 think its a 97. Got it cheap off a old man that needed to sell it as he had heart attack anyways everything runs on it. But it has a miss / splutter on idle and on 1/2 to full throttle.

Engine number is: 3GD-212021 Any ideas if its a 97? and any one got a pdf service manual for one? Couldnt find number on the frame.

Things I have done:
Drained old fuel out of the tank and carb cleaned spark plug and checked the oil but needs oil change. Checked air filter and is clean and oiled.

Video of it running.

Photos of the spark plug after running/riding for about 30 mins. Not wet just black and powdery. Oil?

One other thing I see the rubber intake manifold that connects the carb to the engine has a crack in it, would this be making it miss? sucking air in. going to replace it this week with new one.

Any help would be mint.

New air intake manifold ordered. Cleaned carb as its off the bike at moment.

Quad has stock air box and filter plus lid on. Exhaust is not stock I think photo of it.

That intake boot is likely most of your problem. A crack in it will cause those exact symptoms and ours usually the 1st thing I tell guys to check. Now, having said that, they usually crack or tear b/c there is movement in the engine mounts. Make sure that your mounts are all good and tight then honestly I go over mine every couple of days of hard riding. Good luck bro.

That plugs awfully black for a lean condition from the manifold.

Thanks dudes. Will let you know how it goes with new manifold mount.

Also yes the top engine mount was not tight and the front mount can see some wear on the top one.

Dont think this quad has seen a spanner or socket in ages till I got to it.

Just a update, Got lots of new parts for the quad and in rebuild stage at moment.

New headlights to replace the 2 different ones it had on it plus one had a crack in the back plastic. Dont do any night riding so mainly on it for when im in tree tracks. Going to replace taillight also with led one when i find one. taillight lens is crack thats why i upgrading it. :)

Lucky ass,,, im lucky if i get the day off,lol... My 88 ran all screwy when i got it and it was the intake boot so id recommend replace the boot and check wiring for the switches then go from there..always fix broken before adjusting!!

Yeh checked wires over today.and cleaned them up.

Did find this on the wires. Its like a rat has been eating it, most likely rubbing on frame. Anyways have replaced the wire with new is on the fuse holder.

go air box and new air filter in and couple of other parts bolted. Started to change the front wheel bearings got one side done.

Anyone got any tips of getting the front swing arm ball joints out of the steering knuckle? I have removed the cotter pin and got the nut loss and thread back to the end of the shaft.

Thanks.

do you mean the aarm ball joints at the spindle or where the tierod connects to the steering shaft? Either one i hit the lobe that the threaded shaft goes threw with a hammer while pulling down on the Aarm or the tierod wich ever your doing..
