And all but 1 of the quads on that where BIG 4x4's. And nearly all of them had giant packs on the back.

nothing to do with them being 4x4's trust me the warrior flips far easier than my Prairie 650 because the front diffs on a 4x4 weigh a ton, the packs on the back cant help much tho lol but it does keep newbies from putting their feet there(as they often like to do to feel more stable)

I have a big pack on my P650 and it actually stops it from flipping.. it will land on it and stay then u just pop it into reverse to bring tires back down... but Id say the warrior wants to lift the front tires on a steep hill much more than the p650 does

The real issue is all these newbs out there with 50+ hp machines.. bit to much throttle at the wrong time and over she goes

The hills etc are just a LOT steeper than they look.. I wish steepness showed on video :p

Id say 90% of ATV's around these parts are 4x4 we have a lot of rough terrain to cover and no ORV parks to play in

I know how 4x4's react to hills and such, I still ride my TRX300 4x4 from time. I should have gone into some more detal about newbs and the false comfort of a BIG 4x4 and the power they have. Like you said, 50+ hp is too much for newbs. Looked like a lot of those guys didn't even stand up over the bars on most of those hills. It all comes down to how to work the throttle and knowing when your bike is done(long, steep, power sucking hills). Problem with common sense is, it is not common enough.

the other problem is everyone is switching over to auto trannies which is nice on a 4x4 but it allows a new rider to get to confident to quickly

Agreed. That, and when they gas it it has "full power" to the wheels. No matter if it is in high or low range. Nothing like having a REAL low gear to limit your "power" range and pull your ass up a hill. I like to think of those auto tans bikes like getting on a hill on a sport quad and racing the engine, then dumping the clutch and flipping it.

not sure if I get your thinking... the most common(by far) auto tranny is a CVT which means there is no gear hits or anything to cause a surge in power/lack of so not sure how you mean it would be like dumping a clutch... also most of the CVT driven quads do have a physical low and high gear my low is 2:1 compared to high

I think what you are trying to describe is a HP/torque thing... if you went up a hill in a Raptor 700 in first and jammed the throttle on it will flip over as easily if not easier than a CVT style machine

I get what you are talking about with the Rapter. What I mean is, with a CVT, is that it continues to accellerate as throttle is givin. Your vehicle speed is not limited by the gear range you are in as with a standard transmission. I've seen many people on CTV quads get into trouble because they need some more power and they get on the throttle too much, and rear wheels spin up incredibly fast, causing either wheel spin or excessive grip. Granted, if you are a seasoned rider, and now the bikes limits, power, etc... you are usually the one getting over the obstacle. As for me, I can't stand auto trans on quads. Just doesn't feel natural.
