my daddio didn't know if we could wash the stock air filter. I need to take the K&N out so I don't forget and put the stocker in. and if I can clean the stock one maybe it will run better?

help me out quick cause im going riding soon :)

nevermind guys, I looked in the manual. I'm not gunna bother with the stock one cause it won't dry fast enough. so i'll just ride with the dirty ass K&N and take it home after

...yes you can wash the stocker, dawn helps great, make sure to coat it with filter oil works best, but engine oil works too. clean the dirty ass K&N, dont wait for your dad to do it, air filters are not the thing to mess around with.

why not engine oil? worked for me way back in the 70's and still works today (ya, I am an old effer). clean it well, oil it, squeeze as much excess out as possible. oil is there because dirt will stick to it

yea it'll work, long day and i wasn't thinkin. my bad. filter oil is super sticky tho making me believe it will trap more durt/dust. Stuffs barely scrubs off your hands.

while taking the K&N out, my dad didn't know how so he kind of ripped the ribber stuff that goes by the hole. so he will put some glue or something on it. then he can clean it while hes on vaca. im posting pics of the ride so look in the image section

yah the K&N is here and my dad is gunan wash it in the next few days. I was just thinking we could have washed the stocker out, put it in, take the K&N out, then see if it runs better. but I wil lwait and see if we take it home I can ride it and see if it makes a difference

ok people, the kid put motor oil on the K&N before and my dad said the filter is supposed to be white after washing (we washed 3 times) and its not white. and we we're wondering if it matters or is it ****** up?

thanks,

Ok, first question, are you using the k&n cleaner, or just soap and water. And if it's not white, what color is it then? Mine were always a light gray color when I cleaned them, not truly white.

ok, it looks like my dad's so it should be okay. my dad thought it should be white so thats why I thought I'd ask. we just need to let it dry then put the red oil on. we might bring the trailer to the farm tomarrow and bring it home but not sure!

heres a pic. the square one below is my dad's from his truck

that looks fine to me, that's about as close to white as mine ever got.

okay thanks a lot man, I hope it makes a difference tomarrow in the way the machine runs. I have noticed it ran rly ****** prob cause the dirt in it.

when we were taking out the filter there were 2 little puddles of motor oil in the bottom of the air box thing so maybe the kid put too much?.

and thanks again

if theres that much oil i would definately clean my carb out just to make sure it didnt get gummed up or anything, who knows what else the other owner did... just my .02 tho

that makes lots of sense too. the machine has been running ****** so I don't know if the cleaned airfilter would make a difference or not. I'm not going out riding today cause it rained.. so I don't know when I'll get to check it out. my dad said about bringing the trailer and taking it home today but i dno, I could see if we could just bring it home to check thing out.. i dno, i'll have to see after we put airfilter back in
