What do you guys recommend? I have a crappy foam filter that's kinda dirty. I washed it with a hose and wrung it out. I'm thinking of getting a K&N, which is what I use on every car I've ever had.

They're less than $30 on Amazon new. I'm thinking BUY. Actually just ordered it anyway! Can't hurt I guess.

Any performance increase or just peace of mind would be good.

Also, I've read something about deleting the air box. What is that about?

The air box delete is only good if your not in super muddy/wet conditions IMO. k&n is good.

Heres an old duner K&N trick. It works good for trail riding to...
Slap a nylon stocking over the filter, trim it up with a pair of scissors so it fits the filter properly, and oil it before you put your outerwear (precharger) on.. Trust me, it'll capture way more fine particles.

I will be doin this when I get DRW's intake cause I'll be running a 4" id K&N with outerware and no box so I'll need all the protection I can get!

I don't really think theres anything wrong with K&N filters. But the don't really filter out the fine particles that great. Thats why I recommended the nylon trick, especially if your on dry or dusty terrain.. It'll just save you an early rebuild.. (In the long run)

With the way I ride, it really doesn't show in the long run, I will need a top end in about 1.5-3yrs depending on if it drops a valve lol.

I'm not in a lot of dry dust too often, but I guess I should get the precharger for it too and maybe put the panty hose on it! Can't hurt.

The K&N that weston sent me with his intake, still looks new. I haven't even had to clean it. The UM screen lid works that good.

sorry to thread jack but how often do people have to rebuild i have bikes that almost every year or two need one and i also have bikes we have had for 5+ years still running strong

What's a UM Screen lid? Honestly I think the K&N alone will hold me for a while, as I ride in muddy areas and/or dry grass right now with a little sand now and then depending on the trail.

I live in FL, so the weather changes during the spring and summer where it's gonna be even more humid/damp/wet out.

engine rebuild time depends on motor build and how you ride it.

the um air box lid screen is a velcrow lid screen for the UM raceing air box.

ah, ok. I'm not really racing this thing now. I'm more into trailing and mud. It would need new gearing for that. I've had it up to about 38 mph in the field that I know very well, but it sounds high in the RPMs. It's not ready for any real races probably.

edit: But racing on a quad sounds extremely fun. Just kind of a noob right now. Maybe soon! Might need a different type of wheeler.
