I am trying to get my 1989 warrior back into spec and I see conflicting info on the amount of turns for the air/fuel mixture screw.

Sooooo is it 2 turns out or 1-1/4 of 1989....???

Also, why is it different between years?

Thanks,
Charlie

im no wiz at this, in fact im still learning a lot, but my idle always seemed to run a little lean. so i turned it out 1/4 more than factory settings and it runs good. do i have it properly tuned? probably not, but my header has never glowed on me and my spark plug looks golden brown like it should so im satisfied until the mods start pouring in. i would just tinker with it until it runs well. once you throw a slip on or start doing mods factory settings are going to be less important. plus elevation has a lot to do with jetting because of how thin or thick the air is. with the information i have i would guess yamaha has to come up with a general medium with jetting for mass production. hence the air/fuel screw is on the outside of the carb to make adjustments on the fly.

if you think you have to make adjustments, do it when the bike is warm. it will run lean when its cold. and you shouldn't have to touch it after that until you start messing with the flow in other areas

Start with two turns out and adjust to were it runs good. Should not have to go more than a 1/2 turn either way to get it right. If you do then something is not right. Float level, pilot jet size, or something of that nature. Most carb adjustment problems if the carb is in good shape is due to float level. It will make you or break you.

87-89 is 1 1/4 turns out and 90-04 is 2 turns out according to the service manual but that is for a completely stock machine.
if you have mods like exhaust , air filter, cam etc... you must adjust accordingly

Thanks for all of the advice guys. I have it set to 2 turns out right now but I think maybe I'll try to "TUNE IT" a little to see if I can get it to the sweet spot.
