Hey guys I'm building a trailer I would like it to fit 2 quads but idk if it can I'm pooling a wood floor in it do you guys no any ideas or tricks I could do to make it wider I thought about putting the boards side ways and let it hang off but I'm afraid they will snap just post what y'all think

just use 2x4s in rows. that will not break and will be more durable. it will cost more money though.

You are better off just buying a trailer. It will probably cost you about the same. But, if you are set on making your own, use 2x6 for the floor. 2x4 is a waste of time. Run the boards front to back, not side to side. You do this for 2 reasons. One, it is easier to hold the ends down, which keeps them from curling when they dry out. Two, you will have the cross members for the frame to properly support them. The cross members go side to side, and the boards lay purpendicular on top of them. You will get max support and strength out of it that way. Use no less the 1/4" steel. You will need a lot of angle iron, and some rectangle stock. Be sure to use something atleast 2x4 for the main frame and tounge of the trailer. To get the axle in square so the trailer pulls straight, you need to measure from the center of the coupler (the cuff the ball goes in) to the center of each wheel/brake hub. Get it equal on both sides and weld her in. Btw, don't put the axle directly in the center, this makes it seasaw some. set the axle towards the back of the trailer a little bit. This will also help to make it more stable at highway speeds.

Gus I already have a trailer it just needs paint and floor just trying to think how to make wider to fit 2 quads

I took my wave runner trailer (got a 2 place when i bought my new one so i popped the other waver runner on that) so i took the trailer i cut the neck down 3 ft, then adjusted the loading boards to support the deck. made a middle support out of an old piece of iron that i powder coated and assembled it all. came out really nice. will hold 2 snowmobiles (1 forward and 1 back), 3 bikes (2 strait on and 1 across the back), and 2 quads (staggered)...

here are some pics... i have since painted the deck to protect the wood, added 10 more tie down points, and angle iron around the outside to give it more support and protect the edges of the wood.

That's nice, I'll be doing a variation of that with my trailer. EXCEPT I will be staining the wood to withstand water. Here in Washington it's gotta be pressure treated. Also planning on building some bracelets that bolt down like what you have, and will hold my dirtbike.

I will today

Yeah 2x4 is a waste. My trailer is 2x6x12 slotted for water to fall between. Front to back with a steel cover on the front and drilled pins in the back. Metal sides. Large tires. Only thing they didn't do right was use pressure treaded boards, or stain. Over the winter I'm going to sand the whole trailer down and re primer it and paint it. Kill the rust. And then treat the boards on all four sides.

the trailer is 47in wide by 92in long if that tells you guys anything i forgot to take pics today i was busy what is there anyway i could fit 2 quads on it?

We picked up an old 11' or 12' travel trailer that was being junked (freebie), and stripped it to the frame. Added some used steel trailer fenders, decked it with 3/4" plywood. Picked up a pair of vintage slot mags from a co-worker and a set of tires from a friends jeep. Had a couple of worn out 16x35r15 Boggers in the back yard, so we cut one up and skinned the fenders to make it look mean.

Since the picture we've removed the fold down ramp setup and went back to loading them forwards. It will need to be re-decked in the next year or two i'm sure, the plywood is starting to get a bit warped, but it's held up really well for the last few years.

how long is your trailer do you know?

Stack them on top of each other.

7'8" isn't a ton of room for two back to back. You may be able to deck over what you have and make it a bit wider and longer, pics would help to be sure tho.

We use an outdoor house paint on the trailer deck not stain. This is because it allows us to mix in sand into the paint so the deck has a slightly grip surface. This is awesome in the winter and rain. It lasts a really long time. Really the only thing better at keeping out rain is an epoxy like deck a pour. And is really easy to touch up. Our last deck we had on it lasted about 8 years. Was still going strong but I wanted to make it bigger a bit for 2 sleds and/or 2 quads. When I am at a pc and not on my phone I can post pics with the side rails on and painted. Looks good and works fantastic. Best part cost me about $40 in materials to do
