I was insalling some front wheel spacers today and saw an inner (black plastic) and outer (aluminum) dust shield on my front brakes. They seem like they may do more harm than good. Do you guys keep them on or are they worthless?

i like the way they look with em off...i want to take my outer one off but i dont know much about them

good question...thums up

I would keep them on, yamaha puts them on there for a reason. And what would be the sense of taking them off? shave 1/4 of a pound?

yeah but yamaha also puts parking breaks on for a reason...and im sure 90% of the people on here dont have one

Ding, ding, ding!

He's got a point there!

But they work for a while. Then they go to hell. And I've heard that sometimes it can mess up your electrical. And i would hate to have an electrical short when you are 20 miles from civilization.

No... It only messes up your electrical if you are a complete dolt and can’t use electric tape and unplug/connect the wrong ****. Furthermore if you get stuck 20 miles out because of a parking break wiring problem that you can’t fix with your hands and maybe a sharp rock/lighter you disserve to start walking.

Allright, i took the front ones off(took 1 minute, seriously) looks better
how do you take those ugly A$$ inside ones off?

why take them off? are they getting in the way of anything? they arernt that heavy at all . they dont hold you back from anything... but hey yamaha put bolts to hold on your rims to your hub so might as well take those off.

Apples and Oranges here, King.

Why do people do any appearance mods? Because the like the new look better.

Duh!

My concern isnt weight or appearance its just that while the shields probably keep dirt out they also seem to keep dirt in. I spent hours cleaning my quad after the last ride (dirt and clay from Fox Valley Offroad park here in Illinois) and it was spotless or so I thought. After removing my front wheels I saw ALOT of dirt in and around both of my front brakes. With the shields in place you cant spray water on the brake area or get at them without removing the front wheels. I just thought that since the shields don't keep all the dirt out and prevent me from cleaning my front brakes maybe they should go.
