They're mostly for looks. The additional stopping power doesn't really matter because it only takes a light touch of the pedal to lock up the tires even with the stock rotor. I bought one, but when I got it I discovered that it was one for an 87-88 warrior, so I sold it to the owner of the local atv shop. He put it on his 686 raptor that he runs in mx and harescrambles, and he didn't like it because it ate brake pads like crazy.

No the point of them is to maintain stopping power when the brakes are loaded with mud and all sorts of ****. The wave sorta tosses the mud and sand out so that you still have awesome braking. The best way to go about it is get the SRP wave rotors and combine them with the severe duty pads. Without the debris stuck in the pads it greatly reduces the grooves cut in your rotors. I'd rather replace just brake pads over pads and rotors. You'll still get 1 1/2 seasons about even while hard riding. If you race it'll be much less though. I grooved and warped the **** out of my stock rotor, the wave was necessary and only 80 bucks shipped to my door also.

They are definately not a waste of money if you need the performance.
