How can you tell if your cam chain is stretched I couldn't find any info in the clymer guide not unless I missed it

See how far out the cam chain tensioner is, and/or if the timing marks are off by a half tooth-ish then you know the chain is stretched.

I know this is a stupid question how do you check the chain tensioner I know where it is but don't know how to check it

You have to take it out. If I remember correctly, you have the take out the middle bolt first and pull out the spring inside of it. Then take the two mounting bolts out. See how far out the plunger thing is out. On a side note, if you don't take out the spring inside of it, the tensioner will completely extend as you remove it appearing like your chain is completely stretched out, even though it is not.

Thanks for the info what would be normal and what would be out of tolerance

If your tensioner is at full extension or close to it, replace the chain. If you are doing a rebuild/top end work/etc., just replace the cam chain so you don't have to worry about it, they're pretty cheap. As for brand, either D.I.D. or OEM

That is what I am in the process of doing just was not sure about the chain thanks again for the info
