I was wondering if I need a smaller chain becuase right now I have 13/40 sprockets and I need to tightnen the chain adjuster bolt almost all the way in for the chain to be tight. And sometime this week i'm buying 12/40 or 41 sprockets and they only sell 520x98 and 520x92. Do you think I should just buy the 520x98 and cut a link out?

Yes! ALWAYS buy a bigger chain if you aren’t sure!!! It is better to be to long then to short and the ease and time it takes to cut off a link or two far out weighs the hassle of having to exchange it! If your chain is to loose and adjusted fully it is to stretched out most likely, time for a new one. Don’t buy a cheap chain though; the cheapo' chains will stretch a large amount before you know it (in only a few hours of riding and from there on after for a while)!

yes I plan on buying heavy duty steel sporckets and a DID professional series O-ring.
chain is $72.95
f sprocket is $10.95
r sprocket is $27.95
total is $111.85
well thats a good lump of my christmas spending money!

yep thats what im doin... so u think i should go with a link longer?? my 12 tiooth was fine with the stock chain

the stock length chain is long enough for a 14/40 setup, and still short enough to work with a 12/40

he wouldn't be back at stock... 12 tooth is lower than stock and 41 tooth is also lower than stock.

if u go from13 to 12 in the front that is down 1 tooth and the rear is 40 stock and u go up to 41 that still evones out to stock 13-40
12-41
you are going down one and up one so that is stock

*Your Front sprockets make a 4-5 MPH dif. per tooth (gained or lost depending on the below).
*Your rear Sprockets make a 2-3 MPH dif. per tooth (gained or lost depending on the below).

Down in the front = more torque less top end
Down in the back = less torque more top end
Up in the front = less torque more top end
Up in the rear = more torque and less top end

All this adds up to him being geared lower than stock, he will be losing 6-8 MPH on top end
