i always get a new filter whats 4 dollars......i dont know if my dealer gives me a deal but thats what i pay for them....they give me deals on everything else known to man

you could also buy a re-useable filter, just clean it out with parts cleaner and throw it back in at every oil change. My rappy came with a re-useable filter so I'm going to assume that yours most likely did as well. There should be a blurb about this in your owners manual.

On my '06 350, the OEM was the re-usable element type (metal mesh screen type).

Remove both rubber seals, clean from the inside going out with carb cleaner (electrical contact cleaner will also work fine). Let dry, put the seals back on, re-install.

Shouldnt have to change it unless the screen itself is damaged, i.e. has a nick in it or is torn, etc.

If your '05 has some other filter medium, then toss it and get another

you know where the shifter is i hope you know atleast lol, like right abopve the end there is a round cap lookign think with 3 or four allen screws in it, take those out pull the cover off and the filter si right there

Bikes are shipped dry. Oil, and filter are up to dealer discretion.

Hmmm, well I know the oil is usually a dealer item, but youre saying Yamaha doesnt ship the engine with an oil filter??

Its been a long time since I uncrated a bike myself, but they always came from the factory with a filter.

I would have thought Yamaha shipped with a filter as well. Well, I'll ask my dealer next time I'm in there.

MAybe different parts sources that week?

who knows.

I use Filtroflo metallic filters. Like 3 bucks at my local MC shop. Ask for the one for an XT 350 street bike. They seem to have a smaller filter screen in them....
