How many of guys recommend adding the extra steel plate in the clutch pack? I was thinking especially since it's a EBC.

Do you have a extra one in your bike dave? I know I just put HD springs and mine after what I've read from FST. But everybodys says that, steel plate takes up space and puts more tension on the pressure plate because it loads it more as with spring pressure. Also when the clutches get worn I guess the clutch bottoms out and this keeps it from doing that.

No I didn't put one in mine, just mickeys 446 springs which are different then my old 366 springs, so he says. But I've heard that EBC clutches aren't as good as the stock ones.

I think the EBCs are just as good as the stock ones if not better. I've tried damn hard to get mine to slip, and even without an extra steel it won't give me the slightest hint of slippage or fading no matter how hard I push it. Even towing a 600 lb ute with 28's and a 200 lb rider on it through the woods didnt make this clutch slip, and I drug him around for a couple miles like that (and I think that's more stress than most of us will ever subject their clutch to). Adding an extra steel is still a good idea though, it doesn't matter how good the clutch is if the clutch basket is bottomed out and can't put pressure on them anymore. I should have put an extra steel in mine when I replaced it, I just didn't think of it at the time. I actually could have probably put an extra steel or 2 into the clutch pack with my old stock pads and got a few more years of good riding out of it, because they didn't look bad at all, but were slipping horribly.

Yeah thats the problem with this dudes clutch, his fibers aren't all that bad but it dosn't let out till the lever is all the way out and you could feel a little slippage.

I have an extra plate in mine. I am also yet to make mine slip and i have tusk plates right now. But they are starting to slip in the higher gears.. but that can be expected.... i put a beating on clutches, this is going to be my 3rd set.

2001...... 6 years old so that sorda has something to do with it..

Im hard on clutches thats all... i do alot of holeshots, and alot of hill climbing, im heavy on clutch use for some reason.

Thats pathedic, i guess the sayin "they just dont make them like they use to" is correct in this situation, my motor is 18 years old, we have never done anything to it except change the oil and oil filter and i ride that thing super hard, i race my friends (crf dirtbikes(many diff. sizes) 400ex's z400's and some 450's), hill climb, and mud bog all the time. That thing runs better then my friends 1993 warrior, the clutch is just now starting to go, but only when the bike is in reverse. Im shocked that it hasnt had any problems, good thing i have another warrior engine that im building at the time with a bore, high compress piston, and a race cam.

hahahaha idk maybe im just saying that his is only six year old and his clutch went bad when mine is 18 and nothing has ever happend to it.

Well my problem was higher gears.... it wasnt shifting as fast as id liked..... i could have run it for many years. But i had all that power and it was slower than my old set-up.

I ran big 6 ply 22's for a while which also is hard on clutches

So actually there wasnt anything wrong with them but i just like to keep it in tip top shape, and clutches are cheap and easy.

This is a good point with big heavy tires and tall gearing really is hard on them... plus mods. I supose oil you run to is a big factor.

DEFF my first clutches didnt start to go bad untill i put a max life engine oil in it. After that they were toast. I run amsoil now, or yamalube.
