cracked case

I'm new here looking for advice want to replace the left side of my case had chain damage from when I bought it the kid used jb weld just rebuilt the top end so I a am mechanically capable ,do I need to completely gut the case or is it a simple change

Your looking at a 7-10 hour job, and you need a flywheel puller to do it.
