As some of you may know I had some carb tuning issues but played with a little today and I think Im in the right spot now. However...

When I was tuning sometimes the engine would cut out and almost die and then I let off the gas and it would idle normal.

Then I took it on a straight stretch and finally opened it up in fifth and it ran like a beast. I could literally feel the power again finally, but when I let off the gas the rpms are staying really high like its stuck there. It will even move on its own without pushing the gas. The only way I can get the rpms lower is engaging the clutch about halfway when stopped or going very slow.

I put the K&n back in it before I started all this, choke isnt engaged either. I know throttle cables act up sometime so I will check that but I doubt thats it. Anyone have any clues?

And Ive played with the idle screw and its not making any bit of difference

If it was me, I would start with the simple stuff that only casts time and not money. Take the plastic side cover off the carb and open up the throttle and watch and see if it returns quickly when you let off throttle. Take throttle cable off and spray wd 40 rust penetrant down it and work it back and forth till it moves freely. I literally just had this problem 3 days ago on my kids bayou and it was the cable sticking. Took cable off carb and thumb control and soaked it with wd40 and worked it for a few minutes and it works perfect now.

Alright I definitely try that. I just got back on it and the revving high had subsided but now its cutting out again at random times. Tonight or tomorrow Im going to do what you said with the cables and Ill just take the carb off and clean it. Im sure sitting for 4 months with the same gas in it hasnt helped anything so its probably due

After 4 months, a cleaning would be a good idea. I only suggested the cable thing because my sons bayou was doing exactly what you decribed as far as the high revving issue. So I pulled the carb, rebuilt it adn put it back on and still had the same issue. Eventually I checked the throttle return and saw it would go normal, slow, and sometimes stick. Pulled the cable off, sprayed it down and worked it and it was sticky at first then loosened up and works fine now. For the cutting out issue, is the carb boot good? Start it up let it idle and spray carb cleaner on the boot, if it affects the idle you probably have a leak. Otherwise you just need to fine tune probably. It took me a while to find the sweet spot but its well worth the hassle. Good luck Connor.
