My cousin which is about 25years old and probably weights about 180 is going to buy a atv, but his is going to be bigger and better. I want to know where i would stand if he buys a raptor 700 or yfz450. I am 21 and weight 130 and i own a '07 raptor 350. and if he would whoop my ass what technique can i use to close the gap. also i am bone stock.

I've never raced any other atv before but for me 22 hp and he would be haveing about 45 to 50hp i don't think i would stand a chance but i do have a 6speed and he has a 5 speed so would me haveing a lower first gear help my chance through accelerations. he has about 13lb to 1hp ratio and i have about 20lb to 1hp. sooooo yeah i think chances are he is going to beat me by far...

I just remember reading a forum that said some one raced a 700 or 660 with their warrior and did pretty well against them but i don't know what mods he had on his warrior.

Your raptor will never be a 450 or 700 but that doesn't say you can't have fun.
If you want more hp you'll have to start modding the bike thou, start out with a good after market slipon exhaust and a clamp on filter, don't forget to jet. After that you can always go to a high comp piston with a better cam. after that it's pretty much more extensive motor work for more hp.

Think about your riding techniques they could help you out alot when facing him in the trails.

I would just suggest screw him and have fun!!!!

yea your 350 will never be like a yfz or a 700 but you can still have a lot of fun on your 350. I would deffinately reccomend at least getting a good slip-on exhaust such as an HMF, yoshimura, Big Gun or one of the other top exhaust and a K&N filter with outwears. Pretty cheap and simple mods but you will notice a difference with a re-jet.

Well I am considering getting a lrd exhaust system, a different filter, and rejetting. I am just going to start with all the easy mods that just bolts on and possibly go for an oil cooler mod.

He has no experience on a atv. The only reason why he is buying one is because he drove mine and found out how fun it was. i know the next time he comes down he wants to race because he is a big into suping up his car. only thing i have on him is i know how to ride.

I guess i was hoping is that yall would say is that his weight will bog his motor down, if i had to guess his real weight would be around 250lb.

Drag racing is lame, race around a track or trail and your experience should prevail, regardless if his machine is "faster"

I myself find that the 350 is better controlable in trails then the 700 and the 660 raptors. Most of the guys I know have 700's and 660's and they all wipe out in sharp corners in the trails because of the speed they are going. So if you really need to beat him take him with you on a trail ride and lets see who wins!

Good luck and when you purchase your mods don't be to shy to show them of we all love mods! (suggestion about the filter: Pro-design K&N filter kit is the best).

I totally disagree. There is nothing "lame" about drag racing. Of course it takes power but a lot of it is rider skill. I raced my neighbors 97 250 timberwolf which has been held wide open in 1-2nd gear (literally wtfo) for miles and he cut the drive shaft out with a torch to make it a 2wd if that tells you anything about how its been treated...Well anyways in 300ft I beat 04 350 ranchers and 500 rubicon by about 1 and a half lengths. Sure both quads had more power and are newer but like I said its mostly rider. Sure riding on a track or through the woods is also gona show the difference between riders but drag racing can also and is definately not lame.

well i was really planning to beat him in all kinds of races i can. but definately throught the trails, thanks for the suggestions, and i'll let you all know who will prevail. The lil guy on a budget (me), or the big guy with the big bucks (my egotistic cousin)

Basically I tell you that you'll never compete with a 700 raptor. I have a couple buddys with banshees and 450r and they ******* kick my ass all over the place and as they should. I mean I was left in the dust. It wasn't even a race. All of are bikes are lightly modded. In the woods at least I can say that I didn't have to get off my bike as I have reverse.

There is one way that he will win. Call him over to you, and when he get's close, give em a shot in the nuts, then jump on your quad, and take off... But other than that I don't see many ways of you being competitive once he get's used to the machine.
Though he has to Make Sure that he breaks the quad in right, and if he goes with the 450, he keeps on the maintenance ( i heard of the valves having to be adjusted rather frequently, please correct me if i'm wrong)

The only kind of riding that really tests your skills is mx and xc, I get so pissed when someone does a wheelie abd someone else says he's a bad ass rider lol. Youre 350 will never come close to a 660, 450, or 700, but if youc an out ride him do it.

Yeh i hear what your are saying, imtarnished made a good point about the suspension, i guess i'm gonna have to weight out the advantages of suspension vs engine mod... if anything when i really want to ad some power i might just go with a 446 bore kit.. but iano i let yall know what is going on and how the race turns out.

On trails it is mostly rider skills. My little bro rides a 660 and leaves me easily, but he can get on my 350 and me on his 660 and the results are still the same, I'm choking on the dust! I've out run several much faster machines but I really just beat the riders. If your cousin learns to ride good, you'll not stand a chance, but if he doesn't, you should win easily.

I used to love watching my little bro pass dirtbikes on his Timberwolf...lol (he never backed off of it). Some of them would be so ticked off that they would load up and go home. PRICELESS!
