Today i wanted to split the case so i could get my motor all put back together by next weekend. Well i ran into a wall when i went to pull the flywheel off.
First off in the Clymer manual it says that you should pull the gear on the lower left side of the flywheel out first but there's no way that it would get past the flywheel. Anyways i have a flywheeler puller from harbor freight that i used to pull off the flywheel. It didn't even budge by using a normal wrench. So i went and got the impact and it broke the flywheel puller. 3/16" steel snapped in half trying to get it off. So do you think there's a problem with it? Or would that $30 flywheel puller really get it pulled off? The other thing i thought might work is harbor freight sells a 12 ton hydraulic flywheel puller... What do you guys recommend?

So that just threads on to the flywheel then you use a wrench and it should crack loose? I'm not really familiar with using one like that.
Thank you also for the quick reply!

yep thread it on the flywheel and a zip with an impact and it will pop it right off

To split the case will i need anymore special tools? I just don't want to have to wait to get another special tool. I really want to get this thing back together and broke in by July 4th.

Ed is right. You need that puller or you will risk destroying the flywheel. Your gonna need a crankcase seperator to split them cases too

Once you pull the flywheel and remove all the case bolts you can take a dead blow hammer and hit the cases, hit it in several different places and they will separate. Just make sure your forks dont move when you pull the cases apart or it will be a nightmare

The flywheel puller is suppose to come on Tuesday so i can get the flywheel off. Then i can open up the case to make sure everything is good inside and that there's no foreign materials in. Hopefully i can get the jug back soon too.
