New Guy Here!

I just picked up an 87 Warrior which I'm still getting running (needs a new stator). It only has foor pegs and I want to add something to keep from running over my leg. I don't have a budget for fancy $200 nerf bars, does anyone know if the later model Warrior nerf bars or Raptor heel guards will work? Or any other ideas? I have a machine shop, so fabrication is probably not an issue.

Thanks,

John

i got a pair i just took off mine today. i put a set of nerf bars on it today. i am not sure if they will fit or not. try www.bikebandit.com go to oem parts pick a newer year of warrior. get the part # of the guards then compare them with the number on the site for your warrior

Thanks for the reply!

Unfortunately, the 87 model had nothing other than foot pegs like a dirt bike, so comparing the two parts lists won't help.

Are you interested in getting rid of your old parts? It looks like I'l have to rig something up, and I'm going to eithere start w/ the flat metal floor plate behind the pegs like the 90's Warriors had or possibly use the curved plastic heel guard from a Raptor.

I like the look of the Raptors, but I'm not sure if the pegs on a Warrior are the far enough back so that the upward curving piece of the Raptor heel guard will meet up w/ the downward part of the rear fender on the Warrior. I really need to have both bikes side by side which isn't possible, so I'm kind of guessing about this and I don't want to spend a bunch of money on parts which won't look right.

Thanks,

John

To be honest these heel guards i took off arent even worth the cost of shipping. they are a little rusty. try the buy/selling section and post what you want. im sure somebody there will have a better pair. i would just get nerf bars in the few days i have had them they have saved my legs from getting run over a few times

I tried that-using the older model floorboards on my 87,and it will not work because the 87 is missing the bolt tabs for the back bolts-just get nerfs, they are way better ;D

Thanks for the replies. Glad to hear about someone else's experience trying this. I didn't really like the look of the metal footplate/plastic heelguard piece of the later models, but I thought it might still hook up. If it was simple as adding some attachment tabs, the welder is all warmed up ;D

I went my the local dealer and was studying the new Raptors, and it looks like the Raptor heel guard may work as well, and looks a lot neater. It may still require some brackets, but I think it will look better than the old style, so I may try that. I'll let y'all know how it works.

Anyone have any Raptor heel guards and the brackets they want to get rid of??

I have an 87 as well....it suck trying to find aftermarket parts sometimes!!! Butreally, go with the nerfs...you can get them for like $125 and they work great!
