Well I want to send my head off to be p&p and I was googling some things today and decided I might as well have a 3 angle valve job also. I have no idea what the " 3 angle valve job" does and would like an explanation . The p&p and valve job plus a new gasket kit is probably gona run me around 250+ bucks and I'm hoping its gona add a really noticable amount of power. Also, I know that you guys have said before to make sure the shop has a flow bench, now can they p&p the head to add more power in certain areas of the power band or what?

A three angle valve job is a 30° top cut 45° center cut and 60° bottom cut of the valve seat, it helps smooth out the flow a little better then stock, but is not the best anymore. The new SERDI machine is awsome at performing a serdi valve job which cuts all three angles simutaniously and uses metal cutting heads instead of stones, but will cost some doe and nothing comes close to it in the flow department. Mickey Dunlap charged me $175 to port and flow my head. You being in West Virginia aren't for from FST, so shipping should cost much. A good ported and flowed head should be good for around 5HP gain on top and should improve power through out the rev range.

SERDI machine is the way to go and just doing a 3 angle vavle job with one will yeld you very good gains. The only problem with that is people that have them charge an ass load. This is what F1 teams/nascar and up teams use to do valve jobs and such because they are so acurate and aid in flow past the valve during low lift which is key to a good valve job. To port and do a 3 angle valve job on mine from Duncan Racing was 395.00 but I had all the parts. A good port job will yeld gains everywhere in the power band.
I didn't realise that a good flowing head would be worth that much HP as I thought the warrior has a pretty good flowing head already? With the engine simualtor program that I have it yelded me 1.5 hp gain everywhere but again this is not the real world and is only as acurate as the numbers you put in.
Most of the time with a larger camshafts the gains will be far more with a worked over head.

How's your warrior coming? I think my rod bearing on it's way out. I want to get the best rod out there.?? I'm not sure what do yet. Hopefully it doesn't throw it through the cases.

In my experience guys, I've never seen a noticeable difference in HP or response from a valve job - on the dyno or the ass dyno ;) on engines this small (that assumes they werent somehow screwed up before hand). Your solid gains will come from porting the head.

Most common Serdi work is refacing the valve seat. That combined with turned valves (i.e. 3 angle valve job) you'll get good seals, which isnt so much for making power, but more for making sure you dont lose what should be there.

I personally dont bother unless the valves are actually having a problem (i.e. leaking), or have obvious damage.

BTW, shops that do that kinda work HATE what I just said ;)

YMMV :D

Thanks for that griff, I might not get the valve job done in that case depending on the price. Also I'm kinda of concerned on how long it would take me to get my head back because of mickey always being so busy but I'll give him a call and see what the turn around time would be.

Two months, just a thought.

:(

I think I waited 2 1/2 weeks for flywheel and head job from duncan racing after it was received. I personally want someone that I can call at buisness hours and be around to awsner my questions. I was going to have LRD do it as they personally I feel they do top work but I could never get ahold of anybody.
Trinity Racing is also known for great porting and they have done some warriors.
