I think I fudged up. UPDATE with pics

A few years ago I had a warrior and I visited this site frequently. On a whim I saw a 96 warrior for sale for $500. Dude said the carb and solenoid was bad so I bought it thinking I could fix it cheap. Well I went to pop start it for the hell of it today and it won't turn over. Engine locked up? We were pulling it pretty fast with another atv and I had i tried it in a couple different gears and the tires just lock up. With the battery on I get a click from the solenoid. I hope you guys can make me feel better because right now I feel like an idiot.

take the shifter side cover on it and put a wrench on it, take the sparkplug out to so you wont be fighting compression if it has it lol

It won't budge. This is awful. What are the chances of him taking it back and me getting my money back?

If he doesnt want to refund you then your best 2 options are either: tear the topend down and hope its just the piston and rings froze to the jug and do a top end rebiuld or part it out to try and get most of your money back. If it was me I would figure out what is up exactly with the motor, if he wont refund your money and decide what you wanna do from that point. You could also just look for a good motor cheap. With the quad I have in my avatar, I got it with no motor and found a non-running but good motor in a rough quad for 300. Took the motor out and a few other odds and ends I needed and parted it out for more than I paid for it. which ended up being enough to replace the bad stator that was in it.

Not trying to side with the guy, but any time you buy anything you can't hear run, it is buyer beware. I had a guy trying to sell me one telling me the same thing was wrong. Only difference is he wanted $1500. I decided to pass. At $500 if yours is in decent shape, you should be able to do something engine wise and still not be upside down in it. Especially if you are mechanically inclined and can do the labor yourself.

What are the chances that it can be fixed with a top end rebuild? I am an idiot and thought I could make some quick money and now its biting me in the ass. It had no air filter on it when I bought it. Bell should have went off there. Said that his buddy took it. So i'm betting it was ran without a filter. That leads to top end carnage right?

Normally pretty good chance, but you wont know for sure til the top end is off. Most of the time a locked up motor is just the top end rusting together, but cranks and such can rust together to, hence why I say you really wont know until you get in there.

Ok thanks guys. Feeling a little more optimistic now. The next day I get off i'll pull the top end and go from there. Now I remember why I liked this forum so much when I was 15.

I pulled the top end and found nothing wrong. There is something wrong with the bottom end I guess. Pulled the head and jug and tried to turn the engine and all I got was about an inch of movement out of the crank. Not exactly sure what to do next. Look for a another motor maybe.

You can see the cam sprocket has the key messed up and the cam or whatever piece that is on the head is pretty screwed.

before you go buying a motor id atleast pull the clutch cover and stator cover off and make everythings ok. i actually had a motor lock up once cause a seal retainer on the crank came loose and wedged between the case and the balancer gear. you never know. it could be something simple or mabey not but its definatetly worth a look

Could be wrong, but Ill bet that the cam pin is in the bottom end pinned somewhere stopping it from turning. You can tear it down the rest of the way while your looking for another motor. you may find out whats up an be able to fix it as long as you remember how it goes back together!!

Ok. I'll do that. In the meantime, what is the best way to shop for another motor? Ebay has some but its scary not knowing if they run or anything like that. I guess I'll just have to take a gamble like I did with this damn thing.
