This skid has only a handful of rides on it. For those of you that ride a stocker or no skid at all, your a cheap ass idiot. Just lookin for problems and issues. The stock carriers are of a weak design to begin with, conjunction that with no skid and your asking to throw a chain and bust your case.

Spend the money, buy a good skid and save yourself the hassle.

This is with an aluminum skid in rocky terrain with the desire to avoid large center path rocks. Now I'm gunna test out one of Duners rotor guard set-ups and see how that can hold up.
 
Funny you brought this up today. I just finished a custom stainless one for my Rappy. Don't know how well it will hold up, but hope to test it this weekend. Here are some pics:

After getting hung up on the skid a few times you realize how much you do bounce the rear end off of stuff. Id never run without a rear skid. I wont even run without a full belly skid anymore either, the one I sold off of my red one last year was new when I put it on. When I sold it there was some really good scuffs on it.
 
I have always run them. I do take them off when we go to the dunes, though. There really aren't any places at Waynoka that I have ridden that would tear up anything. Every time I run a skid in the sand I get hung up and I get tired of muscling the dang ATV out of the holes. Riding locally is a different story. Nothing but rocks most places. My plates have some pretty deep gouges in them. And to think it would have been the frame or swing arm getting scraped that way.

Or your disk rotor or sprocket. It would totally cripple them for good and leave ya stranded. Ohio is terrible for rocks. Mines a 1/4" rear skid and has gouges half way thru it.
 
^Yupp. When I first got the Lonestar swinger, I took it to the ville skidless against my better judgement. (Skid I ordered was in the mail)

I had to play it real safe all trip so as I didn't f up the disk. Anywas, I still ended up jumping the chain off in the wee hours of the morning. Man did that suck. I honestly considered just passing out on a rock next to my quad in a river bed. Having the skid would of saved me all that hassle.

I assume your comment is directed at my skid? If so yes it if fully welded on the bottom side. I did it all with our tig at work and used stainless rod to weld it up. I may have to add some small gussets but figured I'd try it like it is for now. Seems to be pretty rigid as it sits. A little heavier than aluminum, but thinner and I think stronger. I am also going to rivet some plastic on there where the chain would rub.
 
I don't run any skids on either of my bikes. Less weight and it looks better IMO......

That is part of why I made the stainless one. The aluminum one I had was off a Warrior and it was spaced a mile below the rotor and sprocket. Last time I rode, I could feel it dragging and hanging up. I made the stainless one tucked up a little closer and gained about an inch more clearance by the time I bolted it up. I'm going to try it at the dunes with it on and unbolt it there if necessary.

You wont be saying that when you accedently choose the wrong line in a hardcore trail and destroy your chain, and rap the chain up on the front sprocket.... and say good bye motor case.

Especially if it happens on his 700. For the little bit of weight it adds, that point is mute. As for looks I prefer to see a skid on a quad for looks. For one it shows that you actually care about your stuff, and dont want it to get beat to ****. Honestly anymore if a quad Im interested in doesnt have a skid I wont even consider buying it unless its almost new and owned by an old guy. To many young kids beat the **** out of them and then sell them.

Has about the same clearance between the skid and rotor/sprocket that the one on the Warrior has, but now have about an inch more ground clearance. The Raptor rotor and sprocket are close to an inch smaller than the ones on the Warrior. With the Warrior skid and the 20" tires it was easy to see why I was getting hung up.
