Well once again I'm looking for more power, I already have a k&n filter and was wondering if I could SAFELY add an outerwears and remove the lid? Will the stock set up allow dirt to find its way through the filter? My k&n is in perfect condition and I dont really wana buy a pro design intake and then have no use for the filter I already have.

I've had good luck with cutting a big hole in the top of the airbox lid, but leaving the part where it is secured and where it holds in the air filter, and adding a prefilter such as outerwears. I've ran this type of setup on my rappy for over a year now and have no complaints, just be sure to clean and oil your filter often and don't forget to grease the foam seal on the front of the filter to better help keep debris out of your engine.

I wouldn't recommend running without the airbox lid using a stock filter. RR has it right, you need part of the lid to secure the stock type filter correctly and maintain the seal. Pro designs or Nossmachine makes an aluminum adapter so you can safely run with no lid and aftermarket filter. Rejetting will most likely be required also.

I have a k&n w/o the pro kit. I cut a large square in the top of the airbox and then bought a waterproof outerwear and rigged that over the cutout with another peice of plastic around the edge. Double the protection yet more air intake. Yet you don't have to worry about the lid not holding the filter in place. Works great. I'll take pics if your interested in seeing it.

What kind of grease are you using to help seal the filter? I have the K&N OEM style replacement w/ outerwears on a modified airbox, and was trying to figure out a good grease to use to seal it. Just didn't want to suck anything down into the engine, and really curious. Thanks

I have a K&N with no lid and no pro kit. I drilled a few holes and used a few zip ties. That **** doesn't budge, I will try and get pics if interested!

i just use some regular chassis grease, only a slight film of it over the foam is needed, use too much and it may get sucked into the carb

i have a pro flo pro design filter combo and i run no lid at all in highly muddy conditions, you guys have seen how nastyy my quad gets...i have not had one problem....no problems playing in a creek with water up past the ners, hitting it in 4th gear...hahaha fun times fun times
