Very good engine. Weak trans, will cost 2500 easily to beef it up by a good trans builder. Bed floor has open holes. Those trucks seem to eat front shocks. Plan to spend some dough on a front end alignment, because it will probably need bushings to accomplishment. Which means that if they don't pop out, the whole knuckle will have to come off. Steering colums just fall apart. I can go on, but, what's the point. Lol. It may not be a bad truck, but, leaves me with a few ?marks.

Yah the 7.3 is a good motor IMO, but are really hard on fuel..
Like Pat was say'n, I've also heard about the auto transmissions in them have'n troubles. My dad had an 02' with a 6 speed. It was a great truck, and he never had any problems with it till he hit a moose at 80mph on the hiway.. lol

The ZF6sp was very good behind those engines. The autos suck. They are usually the E4od. Can be built up to withstand a lot of abuse, but you will pay for it. And don't expect for then 12mpg with the auto.

I'd offer him maaaaaaybe 4 grand tops. Looks like a lot of rust, and if it was written off in 1999 and rebuilt it probably had quite a bit of damage. As everyone else has said, the 7.3L Powerstroke is a great motor, the weak link is the auto trans. Find out if the tranny has been rebuilt previously. I've owned a '99 and now own a '97, and i'd buy another 7.3L truck in a heartbeat (wtb '02 crewcab shortbox 4x4). If you can get it cheap it'd be alright, but looks a bit too haggered for 6 grand.

Ok now for my opinion. 1 being that it is a Super Duty and looks to be a late model year 99 it will have the 4r100 trans, dont over heat it and it shouldnt let you down. Have the ball joints checked, if it needs them and you get the truck get back to me as there are some that guys on one of the powerstroke forums are having long life with(I just dont remember the company right now). Thats really low miles for a 99 and actually a pretty low price for the miles concidering its a 7.3. Around here if one got traded in and priced near that the farmers would swipe it up in less than a week.

Fuel mileage will depend on gearing, considering its a F350 my guess would be atleast 4.10's as thats the common gearing for them, Id say probably about 14mpg. But who buys a diesel truck for mpg's. If you wanna do a little research on your own hit up powerstrokearmy.com . Lots of info there and knowledgeable people.

I guess, there's a decent '99 ex-cab 4x4 locally for $6500, in way nicer shape than that one, which is why it seemed high to me. I paid $2500 for my '97 (crewcab, dually, rwd), but i found a ridiculous deal, the guy was moving and needed money badly. Nice 99-02's go for about 9-13 grand here.

Ha exactly what I'm afraid of, a farmer around here finding it

If the graphics are only decals they can come off easy if he doesnt like them. As for you saying the rest of the truck is ****** I will beg to differ. The interiors are comfortable and roomy and I can actually lean agianst the body and not dent them. Frames are solid and the axles are tough. Im not easy on my trucks and mine has taken every once Ive thrown at it. And I bought mine with 259000 on it and Im still saying this all.

I'm super uncompfortable in them. I find the seats hard as rock, and lacking any conture to them, but, the interiors are very roomy. That Ford did do right (which is something I love about my GM, Dodge knows not what leg room is). I personally have never cared for Ford's chassis designs. C channel went out of style 30 years ago, and they lack the number of cross memebers that I feel a 1 ton truck should have. Their steering is antiquated at best. Even with the alignment perfect, and the balljoints good and tight (common wearing point on SFA trucks) they still wonder down the road, and you have to "scrub" the wheel side to side to keep it driving straight. They do use beefy components, but they handle like an old quarry dump truck. I couldn't remember what trans it could have in it. I don't keep up with the Ford units, other then tearing them out and puttin em back in. A quality shift kit, and upgraded internals with a deep trans pan will greatly improve it's life span and performance. The interior does look clean on it, though, and if the bed is the worst part, a noice aluminum flat bed would be a great addition. It's not a bad truck, but, lacks in areas that I personally feel could have deffinetly been done better. But, hey, it's not my money. If you want it buy it, no skin off my nose.

the leather is nice but the seats suck on out '01 f250. the frame is tough BUT the same model 2500HD frames are tougher. i love Allison transmissions. the front end doesn't have the problems that ford has.

I know I should post this but I love my 6.0 Powerstroke.
I know they have a bad rap but like anything else stay up with your maintenance and it'll be a good truck.
They day I bought mine I drove a 7.3 and there is no comparison on power and performance.
Just a thought.
Ok go ahead and heckle!

Ya there's some signs of some ****** work and apparently it was a gasser and they converted it after the accident... Gay so that's why it was so cheap guess ill keep saving for a duramax

I would save for anything other then that truck. I wouldn't buy a slavage vehicle unless it still needed the work. Did that once. I like the Duramax. Get an older one without the emissions ******** they have been putting under the hood the last 2 years.

Agreed. If you need info on the different gen duramax's go to dieselplace.com best Chevy diesel forum ive found. They have tons of info
