Well i have noticed that on both of my rear hubs that they are loose even when tightened down. Whats wrong? Where im pointing is where it rotates slightly.

did you actually take the cotter pin out and try to tighten the nut to verify that it was tight? is there a washer between the nut and the hub? with the stock axle, i cant remember if there is supposed to be a washer because with my lonestar axle i dont have a washer. the reason i say this is because the nut could be running out of threads and bottoming out on the splines and not tightening up the hub if there is supposed to be a washer between the hub and nut. just some ideas that i can think of.

Ya even with the nut extremely tight after you ride it will still get loose.

Ok, you say AFTER you ride it will still be loose... when you smoke that nut down tight does the hub get tight or is it still loose?

Is there a washer between the castle nut and the hub like it shows in the parts diagrams? (#8 on the rear wheel diagram).

You are taking the cotter pin out before tightening it, right? Don't want to say you're an idiot and would try tightening it with the cotter pin in, but with the dumb **** i've seen before I wouldn't put it past anybody I don't know well enough.

When i tighten the nut down all the way it get REALLY tight and wont move, Yes there is a washer, and yes i put the cotter pin in after i tighten it.

what do you use to tighten the nut with? i had problems with mine staying tight using just a ratchet and socket then one day i had to buy a 25" breaker bar to take the bed bolts out of my truck (they were rusted really bad) and then i took that same breaker and used that to tighten those hub nuts and i hang all my weight (im about 160 lbs) on the breaker bar and then bounced up and down on the bar. that was finally the trick. its just a huge pain then to get the nuts back off if you ever have to. i usually have to have some body to help me do this to keep the fourwheeler from rolling even while in gear. they would just sit on the fourwheeler and hold the brakes. i was kind of afraid of messing up the threads with that much force but havent messed anything up but just take caution. hope this helps.

The problem is not getting it tight, the problem is getting it tight and being able to put the cotter pin in when its fully tight.

i had this problem. find a washer with different thickness and use it that way when it bottom out may be able to get pin in with it tight. make sense?

Are the splines sloppy on your axle? They had some slop on mine so I used some Loctite 680 Retaining compound (green stuff), then I re torqued the nut to spec with a torque wrench and put the cotter pin in. Make sure you let it set up a while before riding.

How well did it hold up?

me? It's holding up just fine. Loctite 680 is tough stuff, it's a bearing retaining compound. You have to use a torch to get that stuff to come loose.

I might try it and just hope i dont ever need to take the hub off the wheel.

You can get it off, you just have to melt the loctite 680 with a propane torch.

Ive got a torch but my hubs are painted and im pretty sure a torch would screw that paint up.
