lt250 clutch cable question

Hey guys. On my 89 lt250r. I just replaced the water pump seals. And when I put the case back on. And I went to my clutch lever in. It just stayed in. Wouldn't spring back out like it used 2. It worked perfectly fine b4 I tore it down. Now I dnt know what's wrong?. Thanks for the help
