Just finished a ground up restoration on my 2002 Warrior. When I got to the final steps I figured out I had no spark so I ran through all the usual suspects and found it to be a faulty stator. I then proceeded to check the other 3 stators I have collected over the years and it would appear that they are all bad. On 2 of them half of it is good and the other part is bad. I am not sure which is which but the little part that attaches to the case is the good part and the wires that lead to the center round part is bad. I guess what I mean is that when I put the tester on it I get no reading and of course if it is installed I get no spark.
So I proceeded to order a new stator. the first one was one of those $40 jobs and of course it was bad as well. I then came to the message boards to find out where I should order from. The overwhelming majority of people say RM Stator, so I ordered not one but 2 of the $159 stators from them. The first one was bad altogether, the second tested the same as the other 2 that I have bad on the center part and good on that little separate part. Let me also tell you that I didn't install any of the new ones, I tested them and found them to be bad. Would that make them test bad? I have a stator for my 2k warrior that tests as working and it is uninstalled.
I guess at this point I am wondering if maybe I'm testing it wrong or something. I just cant see how I can own 3 that are bad and also now I have ordered 3 new ones all bad as well. It's not like its my first time testing ohms or anything, I am 40 years old and I have fixed my own cars and 4 wheelers all my life but this stator thing is really making me question my abilities and my sanity lol. If anyone can give me some suggestions or maybe another more reputable company to order from ... anything that may solve this. I still have the second stator that I ordered from RM I got it in the mail Saturday and could not make it to the post office in time to send it back that day.
I also have a 2000 warrior which I also have spare parts for. I have a stator for it that tests perfectly good, however there is a difference between the 2000 and the 2002. The stator is wound differently and the wiring is different. If that makes no difference I have no problem cutting off the connectors and attaching the 02 connector to the 2000 stator. The people at rm stator said that it may not work because it is wound differently but I figure you gotta take that with a grain of salt, they want to sell me a $160 stator so it isn't in their best interest to tell me a free way for me to solve my problem.
Please give me some suggestions guys, don't hold back a suggestion because you don't want to insult my intelligence. At this point I need any help I can get and I will try anything. My 2k warrior already underwent my ground up restoration last year and I had no problems with it and it still runs fine to this day.
