motor disassembly

well, my motor just showed up that i plan on turning into a stroker. i'm thinking about disassembling it and then reassembling it, just to get a feel for the whole rebuilding processes and see what kind of hitches i run into before i use the good parts. since i dont have any of the new parts yet, if i leave the motor disassembled for any length of time, what areas do i run the risk of corrosion. i dont want to leave it apart if that is going to cause problems down the road. any advice would be appreciated.
 
its all basic stuff for the top end the bottom end is kinda hard for a non experenced person with no knolagde u are better not to tuch the bike at all if u dont have clue on what u are doing the tranny is where u will screw things up if u dont put it back togather right it will not shift right or anything its better to wate till u get all the parts befor taring it down and doing a dam thing to it thats just me
 
yeah, that is probably what i'm gonna do. i was just like a little kid at xmas that got a new toy that you cant play with until summer. i'm gonna wait until i have all the parts and then get crankin. for the time being, i have plenty of reading to do so that i will have more of an idea as to what i'm doing. i understand how motors work, i have just never torn one apart.
 
If you are gonna just pull the crank out and work on the top end you can do it without touching the tranny. The trick is to keep the cases snug together and angled to the left side. Take a rubber mallet and pop the crankshaft a few times. Once it comes free, lay the crankcase on it's left side and pull the right side off, then pull crank out. Doing it this way twice has never failed me, not a gear will be disturbed. The gears are all laying in the left side and the right side keeps em in place, so don't stand the case up unless the 2 sides are together.. I am going to post a tutorial of it eventually just give me a few more weeks.
 
thanks for that info. i havent done any research on removing the crank yet. it is going to be a while longer before i can afford the crank and piston. i was hoping that the tranny didnt have to be disturbed when replacing the crank. i didnt want to open up that can of worms. when you say left side, are you referring to the stator side or the clutch side?
 
The stator side is the left. I sent you an email with the pics of teardown, they have no tutorial,I will add that later, email me with any questions.
 
thanks for that email. it should come in handy once i start the teardown process.
