Well i just got my warrior all put back together..I changed the oil in it..I put napa 5-30 in it..I was riding around my house and after about 1 to 1.5 hours later the motor started knocking. Could this be an effect of the really light oil. I bought some yamalube 20-40 tonight. I could only get 2 quarts though. thats all the guy had. goin to get the other 2 friday. My dad said he hopes that i didnt deprive the crank bearings of oil when i put the cooler on..but there was oil in the crankase so i dont see how it would deprive it of oil.

Even if you deprived it 1 1/2 hrs isn't a whole lotta time IMO to kill a needle bearing, mine ran about that long too with a clogged oil pickup sreen. Start the motor and back the oil pressure screw out of the head, if oil comes out of there, that will answer the low oil problem.

Just do an oil pressure check just to rule that out. If no oil and you say it's full, dump it and see if the screen is clogged or oil filter, if neither, then theres a good chance the oil pump went.

OK ill do that after i put the yamalube in..friday or saturday

and you checked the oil level after you installed it... I suppose that maybe the engine ran dry when it had to fill or pump oil through the oil cooler. Yours looks like it holds a **** load.

no its still full..I checked it after i installed it..im getting the rest of my oil friday or saturday..then i will change it and check the pressure..if theres no pressure i guess i need a pump..but would a bad pump make it knock..I hope i dont need a new crank..i will be super pissed.

Well a bad oil pump will cause the engine to knock because of a failed bearing from no oil pressure. Most likely rod because it's the last to see oil.

so do you think i would need new rod bearings?
It's hard to tell, this 87 I got had a knock so bad I thought the crank was definitly shot, well it turned out to be the rod bore were the piston pin goes through, and the pin wobbled causing the knocking sound.
