Hi I am new to this forum, and find it very usefull. I have a problem with my 1994 warrior I just bought. It runs good in the uper rpm range, but when it idles it has a mis / carb backfire thru the carb like put put put put put pop put put put pop put ect. I think it is running lean at idle but can't find the reasone for it. I checked the intake for crackes and it looks good. Any ideas form me to check? Any help would be great.

Thanks
Mark.

First off, welcome to the site!

Stock pipe and filer/airbox setup? If not, is it jetted right? When the last time the carb was cleaned? Whats the plug look like?

Does it have any aftermarket pipe or air filter? If so do you know if its been jetted? What other work has been done do you know, motor work cam? WHat kind of gas are you running? Is the plug in shape? Is the spark good and strong? Need to know of its had air filter and pipe and if its been jetted to know if thats the problem.

im leaning towards jetting. whats ur altitude? i had to put a 125 jet in mine. now it runs great. also try putting holes in the air box lid for more air. try running it w/o the lid b4 cutting holes

The bike has a dg pipe and header. k@n air filter and 6 1 inch holes in the lid. The carb has a dyno jet kit with 150 jet in it and there needle in it on the third clip seating. I went thru the carb and cleaned everything. the spark plug looks good (brownish black) and it has a healthy blue spark. I tried the pilot air screw at 1 turn out to 2 turns out with no luck . I did notice that the pilot screw is wet? And I live in st louis wich is 600 feet above see level. Like I said it runs good just dosn't idle good. Could it be the timing chain ? I just bought this bike and I dont know the internals.

ur spark plug is supposed to be white. ur running rich

Idle adjustment? Maybe something with the pilot jet, most times you don't want to change out or really need to change the pilot jet out. May don't think you would need to go leaner on the main if its not idleing good, try turning the idle up a little at time see if it gets better if not then its not the idle adjustment.

Yes, brownish tan is normal, white too lean or hot, black sooty is too rich.
