hey yall. just thought i would post some pics. i painted my front and rear wheel hubs, the hub plate (that goes between the wheel and hub) and the rotor backing plates. i also got some IMS pegs and heels (thanks to ant) and put them on. i polished the heels a bit first though. i also worked up the balls to trim my front fenders. it might look a little goofy, but ill leave it that way until i get some new plastics.

Here's everything primed...

Now painted...

Here's the IMS pegs mounted...

As you can see i had to drill some new holes in the mounts of my nerfs (Tusk) so i could run the bolts though. Might look a little cockeyed, but everything lined up well.

Here's a before and after of the heels, polished is on the left and unpolished on the right. i got a little rushed near the end and might have left some swirls or something, but i can always go back and redo it.

Heres the heels mounted...

Lookin good, how do you like those pegs? My feet like to slide off the ends of mine, I was thinkin about getting some IMS ones.

Warrior is looking very noice!!!

I'll be the one to tell you that the IMS footpegs are worth every penny.

Looks good.

I got to paint my wheel hubs...it looks really sharp!!!!

Any tips?

Looks good ;D

I also have to agree the IMS pegs where worth the money. They made a very nice difference on my warrior.

where is the clearcoat?, you better have used it or it stays a flat blue, i used it on mine and there are no chps yet

Thats becuase your bike has been torn apart for the last 3 weeks!

lol. well thanks for all the comments guys. i rode it around near my house today (just in shoes, no boots) and the pegs feel SO good. they feel very stable. as for the painting, warriorspeed i did clearcoat them. 3 good coats on everything so that paint aint goin nowhere! as for tips on painting, preparation is the most important. get all the dirt off of everything, then use degreaser on it so you dont have oil and grease on the metal. i used latex gloves when i handled them after cleaning, so i wouldnt get my skin oil or fingerprints on them. rough everything up so the paint will stick and tape everything off, like the bearings and holes where bolts/screws go, like the rotors (remove rotors of course). 2 coats of primer (white in this case), 2-3 coats of paint, and 3 coats of clear. make sure to do the coats light so they cure up well before moving on. if you do it heavy, it will take a long time to cure up. also, let the clearcoat cure up overnight and try to do all the painting and everything while its warm and low humidity. my dad used to do wallpapering and painting (houses) so he was able to give me lots of tips on doing it right. there is a thread i started asking about painting the hubs, so check that out too. thanks again for the comments guys. later

oh btw klutch, i used spray paint from walmart to do everything. primer, paint, and clear. all rattle-canned! did the dash of my truck (well one part of the dash and engine cover) that way too and it looks great.

yeah i wanted to get them but they are soooo expinsive and if you want heelguards you have to buy the IMS ones dont you?

looks great man..... those heels really set the pegs off.

nice job on the polish and the bike looks awesome

Damn man that looks great i was thinking of painting the same parts but insstead of blue i would do red... that looks good man

thanks guys. corko, im not sure if you have to use IMS heels with the pegs (you might have to, not sure) but i know that you have to use the IMS pegs for the heels. unfortunately, IMS doesnt make heel guards for the warrior (called IMS myself) so if you want some, start cruising ebay. good luck though, i never found any. i got this setup from anthony here on the forum, so i lucked out and got a great deal on them. you can probably find the pegs on ebay for a decent price though. good luck and thanks again for all the comments

So you just sprayed the primer, let that dry, sprayed the paint, then that dry, and the top coat, and let that dry?
How long do you think that will last, I'm feelin to start paintin stuff ;D

i have had mine done for a good 3-4 months, and there is not one chip, i didnt prime anything i juts used a flat color (sticks better than a latex gloss) and then put the darker gloss over it, and then let it dry and i put like 10 coats of clear on and i left it on the quad, i used tape garbage bags and paper plates to cover up the quad

10 coats of clear?! are you exagerating or what? 10 coats is quite a lot. if its not too much (which i would guess it probably is) then its a little excessive. i just put 2 coats of primer on, 2-3 coats of paint, and 3 coats of clear. on the rotor backing plates (8th picture) i had to use the dremel to sand off some paint where it slides onto the spindle so it would fit back on. also, i would just take the parts off the quad (not sure if you did that warriorspeed, from what you said it sounds like you didnt), give them a good cleaning and prep the surface by either sanding (with a light paper, not sure what grit, but not too rough) or just scuffing it up with a scotch pad (the green things). then clean it all up so you dont have any dust or grease/oil on them (or else the primer/paint wont stick well) and prime them. it may take longer and cost a little bit more, but IMO it helps. use light coats of primer until everthing is covered (so you cant see metal) and let it cure, probably overnight is best. then do the same thing with the paint, light coats until you cant see the primer anymore (which is why i used the white primer, easier to see if you missed anything), and let it cure overnight. same thing with the clear coat, but you wont really be able to see where it goes that well, so just remember where you spray. let the clearcoat cure at least overnight. the longer, the better, so if you have some down time like i did (didnt ride this weekend, but will this coming weekend) let the clear cure for a day or two in low humidity. the hubs shouldnt really get chipped up much (if at all) since they are tucked in the wheels. i havent rode any gravel/rocks or anything else yet, so i dont know about the backing plates. just remember, like i have stressed, preparation is the most important step. without a good foundation to work on, your work will look like ****/chip off. klutch, i think some yellow hubs would look killer on that z. see if you can get a fairly close paint match in a rattle can and do it up! if all else fails, you can strip it back off (would probably be a pain in the ass though) and redo it. good luck and remember, PREPARATION IS IMPORTANT!! (did i stress that enough? lol)

I just got done painting a whole frame, i used 2 coats primer, 2 coats base, 2-5 coats clear depending on location on frame. I also used truck bed coating by duplicolor on the underside of the frame, about 7-9 coats of that, it builds up and get stronger by coat, i would say about as strong as powdercoating but that **** is thick and gets all over everything, its like rubbery at first when it dries its like plastic though. But looks good, i built a whole warrior from the ground up in about 8-10 hours of actual working time/ 12 hours of paint an prep though, that was a bitch.

Anyway those pegs look good along with everything else.

thanks ds. i was thinking about painting my frame but i thought it would end up chipping off, since i ride some rocky areas and would probably get some roost. i gotta check and see how much powdercoating is and i might do it this winter when im not riding as much and in school. i should have my girlfriend's 300ex paid off by (hopefully) next month, so ill have some extra cash flow coming in. thinking the race/yfz style front fenders w/carbon fiber hood and an axle someday. if i do ill keep yall posted. later
