Hi everyone. I just bought a 98 BigBear 350 2WD. The manual states it has a YFM350 engine.
As I have been reading this forum it appears that a lot of Yamaha Quads have the same engine.
I was formerly an auto mechanic in a high performance garage so I have an understanding of 4 strokes and performance upgrades.
The bigbear is quite a slug in stock condition.
Do the mods that I see being used on other yfm350s apply to this motor?
Is a YFM350 a YFM350 no matter what quad it is in and only bolt on upgrades and cam separate the bigbear from a more performance oriented machine?
Of so maybe I can get the BigBear to wheelie? hahaha.. okok maybe not wheelie.
THis is a great forum.
Thanks

uh i just put almost a grand into my warrior, cam, springs, high comp piston, port and polish, exhaust, intake, and carb and it woke the motor up, but i was definately lookin for more performance than i got outta it, and she sucks more gas than the 500cc 2 stroke quadzilla i was runnin with

Really?

I get better gas mileage than almost anyone i ride with... then again it all depends on how much im playing around too.

i went through a full tank in almost an hour haha, but i wasn't holding back and the trails were pretty tight so i was always on the gas

I think I got 32 mpg when we went up north. Best out of the bunch. If I had my taller gearing in it would have been even better. Most of the time with higher compression your BSFC goes down because there is a smaller space for the air fuel charge.

Ok. great.. That opens it up a bit to do some work on the engine. Maybe a slip on pipe, jets, mild cam. (dont wanna lose the great mileage this thing gets) and a shock upgrade.

BTW. I have been doing some research on pipes and it appears the only one that makes a slip-on for this bike is ProCircuit and its 375.00. Seems a bit pricey.

Any one recommend a pipe or a dealer that has good prices for old school utilities???

HMF was my 1st choice but they start at the year 2000 for the big bear 350

My choices would be Yoshimura, Pro Circuit, HMF. Just check that frames were'nt changed after 2000 and I'm sure the HMF will bolt up.

thanx.. I have sent a few emails out to the various companies. I will see if they answer.
