Oil filter direction?

Which way is the oil filter supposed to go in? Open hole towards engine or open end towards cap? Also if it's in backwards would it starve the top end of oil? Thanks

Open end in but idk what would happen if you put it on backwards... Nothing good I could guess

Open end in. I don't believe the filter will even go in the other way, as it would hold the cover out really far from the case. You would have to crush the filter just to get it in there backwards. I would definitely restrict oil flow if it was in backwards, but it probably wouldn't completely starve the motor of oil flow.
