Yama, you ever listen to Cheap Trick, Supertramp, The Police, U2? All of which are bands That would never consider to be a personal favorite by any means, but all have a huge following, huge hit songs, and are all POP bands!
Argh... all bands that I can't stand. Especially U2, one of the most irritating band i've ever heard, i think mostly because they play some of their **** on rock stations, which is WRONG. Out of those 4 bands, the only song I can think of that I like is Message in a Bottle, and I think Machine Head's cover of it is 20 times better than the original. Other people can argue that if they wish. I've been told many times that I have a strange taste in music. I'm a country boy, but i'm a metal head too. Pop just doesn't fit anywhere along the lines of what I enjoy and I never saw what the appeal was, maybe it's too uppity and happy, yuppie ****, reminds me of the teletubbies or something.
If that's your definition of a hit, then yeah, it's a guaranteed hit with the way music is going these days. It's just going to hit the top of the charts until they wear it out and everybody gets tired of it, and we'll never have to hear it again, thank god.
Music in general has been taking a bad turn lately. A lot of the bands that I used to be nuts about have completely turned commercialized and pussified. Even Atreyu and Killswitch, I never thought they would go mainstream. They used to be considered pretty heavy bands. Atreyu's last album sounded like pop to me, not hardly rock or metal at all. It seems like the best new bands are coming out of European countries like Finland, all the American stuff is starting to sound the same, the bands that are actually good never get credit for it. One of the best new bands i've seen lately is Veer Union, it's a shame that they only song they're getting played on radio is Seasons, because I felt like every other song that they played sounded a hell of a lot better. Their live performance is unique, but if I had to compare them to anything, i'd say it's Sevendust-ish.
I don't know if you're getting your man card back just yet, your original post seemed pretty excited about Miley Cyrus's next big hit...
Don't feel bad, I pulled a co-worker's man card last week for singing a Taylor Swift song at the top of his lungs with the windows down and the stereo cranked in the McNasty's drive thru. The worst part is that he knew every word of it, otherwise i might have let him off with a warning.
