sounds like the starter is getting ready to **** the bed to me that's what my 01 was doing and I replaced the starter and it was fine the bearings were gone in the starter
pull it out and see if the starter gear is sloppy loose

It runs fine when it starts, but it's been getting worse.. So the starter itself is bad? I've tried 3 different ones and they all seem the same..

do you always have to give it gas to get it started?
I never do and it pops off within a second every time

I think I've just been giving it gas in hopes to gas it at the same time it fires... it could be pure coincidence that it kicks over when I do that or it's not helping at all.. This is the only bike I do that to, the others start right up.

Did you ever figure out this problem? I have the same problem.. New starter, new battery and it still turns over slow.

No idea, so far I've checked wiring. Solenoid, fuse, battery, starter are good. Gotta be the starter clutch.

This weekend I am gonna clean all the wire contacts and go from there. I am thinking starter clutch as well.

so it's still doing this is and now doesn't start anybody know whats wrong? Battery solenoid starter are good...

take the dust cover off the stator side and put a 17mm socket and ratchet on that bolt and turn it over by hand(don't loosen the bolt just turn motor over by hand)
does it turn over easy or hard or not at all?
I'm thinking something's binding up or there is no oil going up to the head and it's seized or almost anyway
