Stator and starter clutch

I just put a new stator in my 2003 warrior and now when I turn turn the engine over it sounds like the starter is spinning freely. Took stator cover off and put rid back in the gear between starter and flywheel gear and it all spins together. And in the right direction. However I know the starter clutch gear behind flywheel is only suppose to turn freely one way. Well mine spins both ways. When I spin magneto it will spin with the gear behind it both ways.. Warrior will not run. Last week before I realized stator was bad the starter assembly and all worked great engine would turn over but wasn't getting spark and now this. Help please!
