I have a friend that has a quad he noticed his timing tensioner kept comeing lose after he drove it he pulled bolts out to find threads were gone in jug I told him we can retap them and it should work and be ok but what do you guys think the chances of it lasting is gonna be and what size tap would be best one hole has no threads left other is about 3/4 left but comes lose

Did you make sure that there aren't some threads left deeper in those holes? May be able to use longer bolts. You can also install a helicoil. What bike is it?

Ok thanks Ya I haven't looked at it yet it's a 400 Yamaha but he told me his bolts are about an inch long so if I remember right that sounds about maxed out in hole to me what you think

Usually there's more threads in there. Mine stripped to but I used longer bolts. Ive done Helicoils on them before I drilled it to 7 mm and tapped it to 8x1.0 and put a 6x1.0 helicoil in.
