What gearing combo works best with 25x12-9 inch rears? with 22x11-9? Thinking about using bigger tires after my rebuild for some ground clearance. Any suggestions?
For 25" you would need 11/38 or 11/39 to keep the ratio close to stock, but you also have to remember that the bigger the tire the more rolling resistance/mass you will have. As for 22" tires, that is the stock size and most people with stock engines find the stock gearing is just fine at 13/40.
I am gonna be running Mud tires as well and not knobbies. Will that make a difference? I thought stock was 20x11-9? Before spring I am boring top end .020 over and a wiseco w/a S1HC. Nothing major but some motor work is going to be done. So I am open to suggestions because I know all the HP gains in the world does no good if ya can't get it to the ground!!
It may make a slight difference as alot of mud tires Ive seen are a slight bit heavier, but a difference you can feel, probably not. Nope stock tire size on a warrior is 22", Raptor's had 20" factory though.
"that the bigger the tire the more rolling resistance/mass you will have."
So do you think I would have stopping trouble with stock rotors n shoes on 25's? Or is that what you were refering to?
You shouldn't though rolling mass increases by what's called moment of rotational inertia, it's measured by the height of the wheel and half the height of the sidewall. So it increases by a factor of 1 when you go up in wheel size and by 1/2 when you go up in tire size
But maybe try just a 12 tooth on the front with 25" tires and I'd stay stock 13-40 on the stock tire size
Also been thinking, will the oversize tires place added stresses on the tranny if I gear down sprockets accordingly? And has anyone who has actually ever ran a setup with 25s have any input here please? I like the hypothetical suggestions, don't get me wrong, just hoping someone on here has the 25s and could narrow down my gear selection a little more. Don't want to spend this $ and be disappoionted...
