i know it has been answered but i cant seem to understand it

what do i have to take off?
can you give me a step by step?
what should i look out for?
how wll i tell i did everything right?

Nah you dont need to check, if its been more than a month it wont hurt to adjust them again.

Take off your gastank and front fenders and hood just to make it easier. Pull the generator cover off and the cam cover, and the timing window plug. Turn the bolt under the generator cover untill you see a T in the timing window. There are both a T and an F so find the T. At this point the mark on the cam should also be in time. The mark on the cam sprocket should be lined up with the raised mark on the head.

At this point the motor is at TDC which is wat you want. Then you have to pull the valve covers off. Loosen both valve tappets and put a feeler guage under the valve tappet in between the tappet and valve spring top. Adjust the tappet untill the feeler guage fits pretty tight, to the point at which you cant pull it out easily, you shouldnt be able to put the next bigger size under the tappet. Then tighten the nut on the tappet and put and drop of BLUE medium strength loctite on the tappet so it doesnt come loose. Repeat for the exahust valve.

To finish off, turn the motor over very slowly 5 six times using the bolt under teh generator cover again, if at any point you feel the motor stop abruptly, STOP and dont force it, something is binding up. At that point you would have to re adjust the valves, most likely this will not happen since you are still using the stock cam.

Thats about it in a nutshell.

ok i think i got it but i still dont feel comfident about doing it myself and anybody that i know that will help me i have to pay and i want to get this thing running

idk if he knows as much as i do about it but i think with bolth of our nolage we can get it

i wont understand it until i see its insides and it needs a valve job cause it has been more than a year

ok i took a peek inside of there and i found what i thought was more simple than i thought it would be so.... what i hear it needs to be TDC on the compression stroke....how do i do that? (turn it how? and which way?.......and make sure it is on a compression stroke?)(the valve will be fully extended right?)

and to ajust it i need to losten that bolt on the top of the lifter and move it by hand until the gapping is correct?

also i got some feeler gauges from school, tell me what you think......

what is the stock valve ajustment #?

Just a word of advice warriorspeed, its always best to work on a quad when its clean.

why the hell does everybody keep saying that it is ******* clean what the **** do you want me to do, there is nothing i can do about it

Because we didnt know it was clean. get uptight about it.

or excuse me I didnt know it was clean.

All you need to do is get a copy of the service manual. I never did anything like adjusting valves before but with the manual on hand I was able to do it. Youll save aot of time and you can get a dvd version for cheap. Dont buy the printed manual, it aint worth the $60 itll cost ya.

i got the printed for free and on dvd for free

i have used that for somethings and this site for some things, it doesnt give detail or anything, but i know how to do it now
