ok guys i got my quad rebuilt and tried starting her today and she didnt start it just kicks over it tries to start and wont continue to run there is power to the starter switch but it wont turn over i have to put power directly to the starter motor i have done a full carby rebuild with a rebuild kit new gaskets needle & seat and jets i think the float isnt adjusted right ill be doing that tomorow what else could it be

cheers trailhound :atv:

I could have read ur post wrong but ur carb has nothing to do with the starter not kicking in.. If u haft to put power directly to ur starter u have an elec. issue, start by checking all conection's and ground wires, there also should be an inline fuse goin to ur + post on ur battery. If this does not work try crossing over ur solenoid

thanks for the replys guys my quad doesnt have an inline fuse in it it is just straight connected (it ran fine with it like that when i got it) also after i bypass the starter is still wont run it just kicks

also how do i cross over my solanoid

you say it's clicking when you push the starter button?
is the battery good and charged?
a clicking solenoid usually means the battery is bad or dead or I think also starter is fried but start by hooking a charger to the battery and let charge for like 10 minutes and try it

take a pliers or screwdriver and cross the -post to the + post on the solenoid with the key on

no worries

when i push the starter button nothing at all happens no noises or clicking or buzzing nuthing

at the moment im using jumper leads ti start it because i dont have a batt yet

and the starter motor is fine nothing wrong there

i was reading in another thread and someone said it could be the needle and seat or the float is adjusted wrong well ive got a new needle and seat so my float might be adjusted wrong because there is fuel leaking out of the carby

its so annoying not being able to get it started when i first got it it had no inline fuse it was bypassed and it ran then but now when i havent touched the wiring it stuffs up

Put the fuse back in there! If something shorts out, and that fuse is not in there, it can cook a cdi, stator, etc... Using jumper cables is not always going to give it a good tight connection. I would start by getting out the test light and probe the wires going to the solenoid, make sure that there is power getting there from the starter button. If not, probe the hot wire going to the starter button, and if it is getting power to the button, then probe the companion wire that completes the connection to the solenoid. If that has power, then the starter button is good, if not, then the botton MAY be bad. You also need to prob the kill switch wires, too.

^^^ Yeah younngballa88 he did say the carb is over flowing with gas so there is a carb issue and also the starting issue but again no need to be rude we don't do that here man!

nah dont worry about it guys its ok

now onto the starting problem well there is none now i have fixed it there were to wires in the kill switch area on the kill switch i have soldered them and all is good 2 small little wires caused me to go over the whole quad taking all the plastics off and fuel tank but it was worth it for a bad ass quad that it is and the carb prblem has solved it self so thznk you very much for all your help i really appreciate it
