hey guys i discovered over the weekend that my rear rotor is bent and therefore destroyed my pads.... i ride in a decent amount of mud, i wouldnt say mud boggin but not dry, pretty much what you would expect on a hairscrable track.... what kind of rotor and pads should i get? im gonna do some research here in a bit but figured i would ask the question to get the conversation rollin...
 
HAha.....you asked for the best. Those pads in the flebay post are crap but the rotor looks good. Any Rotor that has hols or a wave style shape is good. The shape and holes allow the rotor to cool better and don't eat up your pads a fast and wick away the dirt and mud better too. Good thing to do when looking for a rear rotor is to search out "Banshee 350 rotor". A ton of custom and good high end rotors come up and will work on the wardag and rappy 350. (secret little tip free of charge for ya'll)
 
ok cool i realized that alot of the brakes interchanged on all yamaha's but didnt know if years meant anything... so any banshee will fit the 90+ warriors? apparently the 88-89 are different for some reason....

also i wasnt sure if the waves/ holes would be good or bad for mud... but your saying they are good so thats what im going to go with....

it looks like the pads you recommend are less than $30 so thats reasonable... im just gonna try to find a decent rotor and run it with the EBC pads (on second thought i have access to a bunch of free, 1/2 used stock ones (its nice to have friends that work at stealerships)
 
seems like everything that fits a banshee is for a 88-89 warrior... whats the deal here? whats the difference?


im actually still thinking about getting that rotor and pads from the link above... it seems like the coolest/ best performance for less than $120... if the pads wear out after 2 miles, screw it ill just put other ones on that dont suck... im not a real hardcore racer or anything, i just would like to have more back brakes than metal on metal like now hahaha...
 
hmmmm so i looked up the yamaha part numbers for the brake rotor on cheapcycleparts.com and the 87, 88, 94 and 01 (at least) all show the same part number.... if they are all the same part then how come the sellers on fleabay say thier parts are only for 88 & 89??? anyone?
 
87-88-89 rotors are the same diameter as banshee and raptor 660 rotors. The 90-up rotors are about an inch larger in diameter. I know this because I ordered an ebay wave brake rotor similar to the one you posted, but somehow missed that it was only for the early years. Only about half of the brake pads made contact with the rotor, so it was no good, and I used the rotor as a trade-in at the local shop towards a new Vesrah drilled rotor of the correct size. The Vesrah was a very nice quality part, I think it ran me about $90.

I would be cautious about getting one of the crazy looking wave rotors anyways, the owner of the shop put in on his 660 and it burned through brake pads 5 times as fast as a standard solid or drilled rotor.

Solid brake rotors are intended for wet use, because the mud packs up in the holes of a drilled rotor, but I never had that cause a problem with a drilled rotor yet, just make sure you clean them good when you wash em.

I don't think the idea of getting half used brake pads is the best idea, as they wear they will get grooves in them with high spots and low spots, which will wear out your new rotor quickly.
 
Second the EBC severe duty pads.. However for the very very little benefit of either a wave rotor other than looks i would just find a cheap stock/drilled replacement. The average rider would never get the rotor hot enough to warp it anyway.

If the rotor was actually "bent" and not warped from heat.... i would say you should get a nice aluminum skid plate too... otherwise this wont be the last rotor you buy.
 
yeah its actually bent.... and i have a skid plate... im not sure how the hell it happened... it might have happened from the previous owner and i just didnt notice it.... i was trying to straighten it lastnight with a cresant wrench... i got it bending but but it is a pain to get it true... i have a another rusty rotor i think im going to mount up and sand down and see what it looks like... otherwise im still in the market for a new rotor of some sorts
 
Yea man once its warped its toast... it would be damn near impossible to ever get it straight again. And untill its straightened your going to eat up brake pads like crazy... not to mention kill some power.
 
i havent had rear brakes in 4 years and i am also in the same situation were i need a rotor, but i also need a caliper and master cylinder. this thread has me second guess the drilled, slotted, and wavy rotor i was looking at getting. ill keep a watch in this thread.
