So I'm sitting here going threw the little local paper we get out here, and theres an add for an "86' Yamaha Warrior".. The add says all original, and has a picture of a red 1st gen Warrior, with black hood, tank cover, and seat.
Whaaaaaaat???
So I google 86' Warrior.
This is what I find.

So what the hell? I was under the impression that 87' was the first year of production???

no ......lol .... its an 87 the warrior was also the 1st quad with electric start
See I'm confused??
Now this guy claims it's an 86'.. My 87' "had" white plastics, with a blue hood, tank cover, and seat.. That was stock.
Could you order different colors in the first 3 years of production??

87 are red and black
88 are white and red or white and blue

i have 4 87's and all them are/were black and red

I've seen more 87's with white/blue then I have 88's with that color. Yamaha's part fiche lists the red/black and white/blue for 87, and red/white: white/blue for 88. Ask him for the vin. Oh, and the warrior was the 1st SPORT quad with electric start. I wanna say that the 84 honda 200 fourtrax was the 1st quad ever to offer it.

So mines actually an 88' then?
I took it to Yamaha when I first bought it, and they told me it was an 87'??

But the frame is blue..

Does yours have the steering stem bushing or bearing? 87 is bushing, bearing didn't get used till 88.

It's an 87. Might have been bought late 86. Its the same with how the release new quads and cars now, they get released the year before

Then it is 87. Go on a parts fiche and look at the colors listed. White/blue was an option in 87, although the red/black was most common. Nearly ALL 88's I've seen are white/red.

Dude grab that MOTHER!!!!! If I could find another 1st gen, I'd grab it. Hopefully it'd need an engine, so I could throw my current/spare engine in it.
